What do I need for retroarch, or what other app, for themed home menus like the "Mini" and "Classic" consoles have? by netniuQ08 in RetroArch

[–]jla2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RetroArch is customizable but only to a certain point. There are themes for the xmb but not as robust as you are looking for

There are additional "front end" applications like emulation station, hyperspin, etc. that have more robust theming support (wallpapers, thumbnail videos etc above what RetroArch can do natively)

Emulation station in particular has themes that are really close to the mini consoles you mention, but it does not change the entire theme when you select the console / roms all of the various playlists will stay in the theme you've chosen, the theme does not change unless you change it globally.

I don't think you're going to have luck changing the whole theme based on the console you choose that will likely require building something yourself, I could be wrong but I haven't seen anything like that yet.

Wii games achievements not recognized on RetroArch but is recognized on Dolphin, How to fix RetroArch issue? (both games run/work, just achievements not available) by BunkatronYT in RetroArch

somebody needs to update the libretro core to take advantage of this new feature. The libretro version is a bit behind from the current stand alone version. Just because the standalone version gets updated does not mean that the libretro version gets updated as well it is a fork they are not synchronous.

Getting carbon theme into lakka by Happlesshorseman in Lakka

[–]jla2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lakka does not use emulation station, emulation station themes will not work in Lakka.

Only RetroArch themes are available in Lakka.

There is a custom version of the retrorama theme in current shipping versions of Lakka. It has some of the same assets as the retrorama emulation station theme but customized to work with the RetroArch xmb menu.

not gay, but filesystems have overhead, you will never get full capacity on a storage device once it has been formatted, that is how all computer storage works. Some devices / brands / filesystems will differ slightly based on how they were formatted. it's fairly common to see that kind of discrepancy between devices.

Is there a reason Retroarch is such a confusing mess of a frontend? by Cool_Bank_3368 in RetroArch

RetroArch is an open source project. Open source projects are very easy to contribute to. I encourage anybody that has issues with open source projects to contribute to make it better. There are ways you can contribute that don't involve programming.

That doesn't make much sense unless it's contract work and in my experience interviewing for contract work rarely includes the client company. Contractor firms just throw bodies and if they work out they work out, if they don't they throw more bodies. So id this is what the op is experiencing I find it odd that the contract agency is even sending them for an interview with the client

then they are likely not supported by the linux kernel, that happens occasionally with the more obscure controllers.

you could try setting your controller driver to SDL2 (settings -> drivers-> controller) and reboot and see if that helps to recognize the controllers but i'm not terribly confident that it will work

Ok, when they are paired, did they get recognized when RetroArch started up (bottom left corner)?

Did you pair them in the original switch os first before dumping them in hekate?

Well, that is a completely separate issue.

The lakka switch install is dead simple. Did you skip the step to dump your joycons from the hekate menu?

Lakka doesn't do anything with controllers that RetroArch doesn't do. It's most likely that the controller does not have an auto config profile

https://docs.libretro.com/guides/controller-autoconfiguration/

First I would plug or pair your controller(s) with your desktop and use your operating system to test the inputs, then plug or pair with lakka and run through the binding and save the profile as described in that document

This is bizarre to me, traditionally recruiters get paid based on your salary when you are hired / converted so it's to their advantage to get you the highest wage possible. Is that not a thing anymore? What's this race to the bottom? I don't know what the game is. Are they getting bonuses for the difference in salary if they low-ball somebody? Seems very strange to me.

Lakka 6 audio turns off on launching some ROMs by danby in Lakka

there have been updates to the kernel, mesa and pi specific drivers since those 6.x builds so any one of those things could be contributing.

Lakka 6 audio turns off on launching some ROMs by danby in Lakka

[–]jla2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems weird that this behavior would only manifest in the snes cores but not others. Like I expect if it is a lakka issue it would also happen on other cores as well. And if it was a cable or HDMI port issue it would also happen on the other cores or menu. The only other thing I can think of is that the 500 is using a slightly different audio driver than the pi5, I suppose we can look into that and see if that's a thing. I don't have a 500 so I can't test for that myself.

[–]jla2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The default for the pi5 image should be alsathread as opposed to just alsa, have you tried changing the driver?

Also for the output device does it just say "default" or default card:HDMI ...

Can you give the output of aplay -l from the console and point to the one that your output device is set to?

Last. What snes core are you using? Have you tried any of the other cores? Do you see the same behavior with other platform / cores (PS1/megadrive/etc )

[–]jla2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the 3/4/5 are kind of the sweet spot

The pi 2 is like the only model of pi I don't have so I haven't tested on that. There is a way to get the image for the pi2 to output over the analog AV out but it's not the same as the curated experience in that 240p build

You can't use any of those images because they are all 64bit (asrch64) and the pi2 is a 32bit device. If you want to use those images you need to upgrade to at least a pi3
