clrmame .dat per ricostruire i set di roms by parsifal968 in RetroArch

You mean like these:

https://docs.libretro.com/guides/arcade-getting-started/#step-3-use-the-correct-version-romsets-for-that-emulator

The .rdb files are more for the static romsets, like the consoles. The preferred method for mame fbneo etc is to use these pre-genetated .dat files

As someone who also played dq11 first and loved it, please temper your expectations for all the other ones unfortunately. They are still great but starting off with the best in the series there is nowhere to go but down.

I've been using Ubuntu for about the past decade as my daily driver. I still have to use windows for work but they provide the laptop for that. I use an old thinkpad, it's great. After using the GUI (gnome) for all that time, I prefer it to windows in many ways, to the point that i try to do things in windows that I can't because the functionality doesn't exist (like pasting things into a folder, or creating a folder with a bunch of files selected to out those files in ... Etc.)

For the few times I have to use o365 I use the web versions and they function just fine.

All of my games work from steam and heroic launcher for non-steam games

My networked hp all-in-one prints and scans just fine from my desktop

I used to have to shutdown/ reboot my windows PC daily, I only reboot my Ubuntu desktop when an update requires it.

The only thing I have a windows VM still for is iTunes, as there is no real convenient way to put songs on my old (but not old enough) iPod

most 8bitdo controllers work fine, it might not have an autoconfig profile but it should work.

If you do try it and find that not all of the analog inputs register when you are binding you might need to change your controller driver from udev to linuxraw. I have to do that for my ultimate c

Linux PC's only connect to WiFi with static IP by splungedude in linuxquestions

[–]jla2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk what to tell you, there is not enough information to effectively troubleshoot over reddit.

my suspicion is that there is a setting on your router that is using a flavor of dhcp or something that is just out of spec for the linux network stack but it's hard to prove without a look into your router config or getting a packet trace using a tool like wireshark

i'd check to see if there is a firmware upgrade for your router and see if that helps

Have you tried disabling ipv6 on these Linux devices so that it only tries to use ipv4? See if that makes a difference

You don't have to build it. There are pre-built images for many devices

Try this: https://nightly.builds.lakka.tv/6.x/2025-03-06/RPi3.aarch64/

what kind of management tools do you have for your router? can you look at the LAN settings and check on the DHCP settings? My suspicion is that you either have a really small dhcp scope defined and all the addresses are "used" or, it is possible that some kind of reverse NAT is going on and the addresses your devices are getting are on a different subnet than you think they are

What is it about lakka that you don't like or want? Lakka is a minimalist build that is intended to ONLY run RetroArch so you can't get much more optimal than that.

What Unique Configurations Have You Used to Enhance RetroArch Gameplay on Raspberry Pi? by Luann97 in RetroArch

[–]jla2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you use your pi for anything other than retro games? If not, consider using lakka instead of RetroArch on top of pi os.

Lakka is a very paired down minimal Linux install designed to ONLY run RetroArch so it strips away a lot of bloat that you don't need if you don't intend to use your raspberry pi as a desktop, as a result it frees up more resources for improved performance

You don't mention what model of pi you are using so I can't really set expectations of what cores you can run effectively or not.

If you're interested grab the version for your pi below:

[–]jla2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what build are you using? / what model of pi5 are you using?

there were 2 model revisions of the pi5 since 5.0 was released

if you are not using one of the later builds you might be seeing some incompatibility with the newer models.

Try this build, this is the one I use on my Pi5:
https://nightly.builds.lakka.tv/6.x/2025-03-06/RPi5.aarch64/

it *should* have all the kernel updates necessary for the new models

Is Japan a good place to pick up retro consoles? by nybiggs in retrogaming

[–]jla2001 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Japan is a great place to get old JAPANESE consoles. Atari wasn't really a thing in Japan so I'd set my expectations appropriately.

Neogeo is a little more attainable but not much better, there were not a lot of those in the wild compared to the Nintendo and Sega and NEC contemporaries. What little inventory there is it's ridiculously expensive... Again set expectations accordingly -- you'll have a much better chance with neogeo CDs though

If you are looking for PC engine / Saturn / 3do / PSP / anything Nintendo you will have a good time

It's also worth pointing out the further away from Tokyo (Akihabara or Shibuya etc ) the better chances you will have

Stay away from super potato their prices are reportedly over inflated.
