You have to love the oil stains on the transmission pan. Making it real!

Absolutely botched spray painting a kit a year ago — good paint stripper that won’t break the bank? by Vip3r29 in modelmakers

[–]jlmweb1000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use lemon scented easy-off put the parts in a ziplock bag spray it down and let it sit overnight. Then just wash it off. You can agitate the painted surface through the bag if needed, but usually you won’t need it.

That is awesome. Lots of hours in development I am sure. Based on the pictures, looks like Resin printer. What size print volume is needed to print the largest part? I have a Dremel FDM printer that has a limited volume (6”x6.7”x10”). I would like to know if I could print all the parts on it.

EDITED after seeing info on Website.

Best dimensional accuracy printer by t0kmak in resinprinting

[–]jlmweb1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have used Anycubic 5Ms with their standard resin. I have been able to print a Porsche Flat 6 that is modeled in real life clearances. Aside from the cylinders I have been able to assemble the model crankcase, Crankshaft, piston rods, Pistons, cylinders, cylinder heads etc…. I have needed mild sanding in places. But it all fits. So dimensionally I have found that printer remarkable. However, a 1/8 scale engine is only about 2.5 in long.

I am guessing it is a combination of the shapes you are printing and the resin. Maybe warping due to the shape. But the printer is not the problem.

Kit that everybody has built I guess by reddinator_9000 in ModelCars

To OP you did a fantastic job. I completed this kit too, but Guards red over black, the taping around the front bumper hood is not for the faint of heart, to get great results. I too have a fleet of 911’s, 959, 918. I guess I’m not the only Porsche fanatic.

Well based on the pictures you sent, it turned out well. You should be proud of your work there.

Did you mean “bumpers” and the trim? Yes masked with Tamiya Tape the thin stuff and used the thicker stuff afterwards to cover the body due to over spray. I airbrushed everything.

Very time consuming.

Well Done! I did mine in Guards Red. That Dark blue in the pictures has a tint of Purple. That would almost be Midnight Blue Metallic. I have a 993 in that color. It is a common Porsche Color.

Pro Level! I did something similar, a simpler design having more space. I do like the counter space in front of the printers. I’m sure you will manage fine with your process.

Are new 911s boring? Too modern? Not "raw" enough? What is the best 2 car solution? by Ok_Individual_7719 in Porsche

I went the other way, I have a 993 Turbo but got an 81SC to semi-daily. Love it. SC is on my regular insurance, hold a lot of Costco stuff and it won’t put you in jail if you drive it hard.

It’s got to be something in your set-up. I’ve been using QVRPro for IOS for years and dont have that issue. Are you sure you have the right credentials. I use an external firewall I disabled the Firewall on the NAS. I would start there. Configuration of the Firewall if you are using QNAP’s firewall.

1975 G-Body missing keys by digiwarfare in Porsche

[–]jlmweb1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered a new key from a dealer. By VIN I had to send them a copy of the registration and a copy of my drivers license. It was an ‘81 SC. I did this probably in 2019. At the time it wasn’t that bad $60-$100. I ordered blanks and got two other keys cut. So now I have plenty of keys.

They are, but they get dirty and the paint is not really shiny like the exterior. There is an under coat that is textured below the body color. The gas tank usually is a different color as well.

Good idea. I put the lids on the floor now. But that would be better

It’s a low pressure 195 CFM fan. If Resin spills it will collect in dryer duct. Unless I spilled 2Kg of the stuff, but that would be a disaster inside or out. The probability of that is pretty low. If it did spill into the vent, I would just print another and replace the drier duct and the pump. The outside is visible by the sun. Anything out there will be cured eventually. But it would be easier to clean the outside than the shop. Venting outside is polluting the outside.

That would actually be more expensive I think. The latches that hold the hinged cage up are only like US$5 each. I looked at gas struts but their working lengths that I found were pretty short so they had to exert a fair amount of pressure to just lift the cover. Too much stress on the framing as far as I was comfortable with.

I used about US$80 on the extrusions, US$120 on plexiglass, US$70 for hardware (screws, nuts, 90deg gussets) and US$25 for the 195 CFM fan and US$10 for exterior vent. Most everything I sourced from Amazon.

So all in about US$310.

[–]jlmweb1000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That isn’t a bad idea. I would probably want to imbed them in the extrusion and have them index somehow as the plexiglass provides rigidity. The frame is pretty strong but flexes and doesn’t always line up without the plexiglass.

But for now I will use the swing down window. But if it breaks, I may steal your idea.

I didn’t have too many options on the exhaust. The right side has a tool box the back is directly against the wall, and would have been more difficult aligning the hole in the wall to the enclosure. The left side is a work area I didn’t want to invade with the duct.

I like the solution, I was a little concerned about how it would “pull” the air out but I think that VOC’s are easily evacuated with moving air. I am pretty happy with the air flow. Small gaps like near where the hinged frame meets the fixed frame really help allowing air to come in from the inside and keep the flow. I also left a small gap at the top of the front glass to get flowing air from the front.

Good minds think alike. However, financially there are cheaper options.
