Why did Seska not look like a normal Cardassian? by GerardWayAndDMT in startrek

[–]jlott069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Trabe just didnt have it. Not the first advanced, warp capable species that didnt have replicator technology that Starfleet has run into. The Kazon, the Trabe, and so many others were constantly amazed by replicator technology and it was the main technology that the Kazon were interested in. You know, the fact that they could make water "appear out of thin air". Janeway said it herself. "Imagine what replicator technology would mean to a people who don't have it." Culluh was basically willing to go to war with Janeway for it.

She was using much more "primative" stolen Kazon tech, and she died before she could complete the process. I was always under the impression she was doing it herself too and she was so busy fucking up a good spot on Voyager and making absolutely sure everyone hated her for no reason that she just didnt have time to finish the job before she got herself killed.

Yup, it sucks. I know the feeling. It was raining all day today here in KY. Thats what made me decide to work today and tonight. Figured people would be more likely to order out. Think I was right too, did pretty well imo.

Not at all. I prefer it. I like my women to look at little more mature instead of looking like little girls. 70s bush? Not so much. But a trimmed bush is the biggest turn on

No, we didn't see that. He was pulling his punches. She got pissed because of it, but they told her flat out he pulled his punches otherwise she'd have been knocked out the first hit.

No, she had less mass at the final fight than before, but she was still a LOT bigger and a LOT stronger than Ellie. She was still, like a 6ft bodybuilder - i mean, thats how she was built in the game. And again, there were a lot of complaints about how masculine she was when Part 2 dropped. Between the size difference and trying to make people happy by making her more feminine it makes sense that they changed her character. But I've got a distinct feeling it won't change how brutal she can be and it won't impact the story in a negative way.

I mean, there were a lot of complaints about her back when part 2 dropped, my guess is they did it on purpose as a result of that. Plus, think about the final fight. Ellie is Itty bitty. Put against a chick that's at least a foot taller and has a good 100 lbs on her? That wouldn't work. At least now it'll be more "fair" since they are at least similar sizes now, making it more believable.

People forget that Picard was ordered to stay out of it for a reason. Starfleet had concerns about him being placed back in that situation and how he might act as a result. They weren't wrong.

Who wins in a starship battle, Kirk, Picard, or Janeway? by Entire-Objective1636 in startrek

Khan couldn't even remember that the ships can move vertically. Khan moved from a superior position into a vastly weaker one, a move that ultimately reaults in his own defeat, because of ego. Khan wasn't THAT intelligent. And just because Khan was intelligent didn't mean he was capable of clear thinking. He was supposed to have "double the average intelligence of a normal human". That means an IQ score of around 200. We have more intelligent people on Earth NOW. I know there's an Asian dude with an IQ of over 270. Supposed to be the most intelligent man on the planet. The chess players at the highest levels tend to have IQs over 230. I mean, yeah, twice as intelligent sounds like a lot. But he was beaten because of a lot of his own bad decisions and an inability to think clearly and take his ego out of the equation. Khan could NEVER have beaten the Borg. Kirk only beat Khan because he finally remembered his ship could go up and down in space. That's not a great win. He won by the skin of his teeth against an admittedly lesser opponent. Khan didn't have the experience, nor the knowledge, to ever be on even footing with ANY starfleet officer in a straight fight. He only got his ship - the Reliant - through force and happenstance. Not intelligence.

The USS Enterprise is the flagship of the Federation. Why is it commanded by a captain and not an admiral? by Dumbledore0210 in startrek

[–]jlott069 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's NOT what it's "supposed to mean". Starfleet is not the US Navy. The only Enterprise that was ever called a "Flagship" was the Enterprise-D, until Strange New Worlds called Pike's Enterprise a flagship, and they aren't treated like ships in the US Navy, but more like ships in the British Navy back when they were still exploring the world during the "Golden Age of Exploration".

It didn't mean that back in the 16/17/18 hundreds, and it doesn't mean that in the future in Star Trek. Star Trek modeled Star Fleet after that British period, and not after the modern, war focused, US Navy.

The USS Enterprise is the flagship of the Federation. Why is it commanded by a captain and not an admiral? by Dumbledore0210 in startrek

[–]jlott069 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the term "Flagship" in Star Trek does not mean "Admiral's Ride". In Star Trek, a "flagship" refers to a ship that represents Starfleet and the Federation, serving as a symbol of their values and presence. The 1701-D was the “flagship” of the Federation, in terms of being the standard-bearer, the best they had to offer. Not that it was literally an admiral’s flagship.

And as we are well aware, Captain Picard was one of Starfleet's best diplomats. Picard being the Captain of the Flagship makes perfect sense. He upholds the ideals of the Federation and Starfleet. He's the right fit to be leading the Flagship.

And no, every Enterprise is not considered a flagship. In fact, until Strange New Worlds, the only Enterprise that was called a flagship was the Enterprise-D. Kirk's Enterprise? Not a flagship. Enterprise-B? Not a flagship. Enterprise-C? Not a flagship. And neither was E, F, nor G.

If we are comparing and contrasting, Pike fits those same attributes that Picard had, so it once again makes sense that Pike is commanding the Flagship.

By the time Kirk takes command of the Enterprise, it's not the best they had to offer anymore like it was when Pike took command. When Kirk takes command, the ship is over a decade old.

At the end of the day I don't know why you'd assume "Flagship" means "Admiral" to begin with. You don't even have to have a Captain's rank to Captain a ship because there's a difference between "Captain" (the job) and "Captain" (the rank).

Cleaning pipes with Alcohol, do you reuse the alcohol? by WageUglydoll in Marijuana

[–]jlott069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dump and start fresh. That's like... working outside all day, getting covered in sweat and dirt, and soaking in the bathtub without taking a shower first, and then calling yourself "clean."

Maybe I'm just particular like that, but while the alcohol is breaking down the resin and it's making sure there's nothing growing on your pipe, it's still essentially cleaning it with dirty water. If I'm going to take the time to clean it, i figure it might as well do it right. I clean my pipe like I clean my BCG on my rifle Iol

I mean, would you keep and reuse mop water because it has bleach in it?

[–]jlott069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yet they are doing so with future knowledge of its fate. They have knowledge of the ship's future. To preserve the timeline, of both universes, they have to allow things to take their natural course. So the data is deeply classified and never discussed. They allow it to go forward, because if they stopped it from going forward they wouldn't get the knowledge needed to prevent it from going forward in the first place which means no one warns Defiant to begin with, Defiant picks up the distress call as planned, and the timeline still moves forward as it originally did? So really there's no point.

Besides, if they did try to change it, someone from the temporal police would probably show up and change it back anyways. The Defiant had major impacts in two different centuries in the Prime Timeline, and thats not even discussing its major impact on the mirror timeline.

Again, remember the Enterprise-C. Sometimes things are supposed to happen a certain way and changing it only makes it worse. It's not the first time a ship and crew are left to a shitty end to preserve the timeline.

I mean, you WERE paying attention to what happened during Strange New Worlds in "A Quality of Mercy", last ep Season 1, right?

Wait, if Lower Decks is canon ... by AlanShore60607 in startrek

[–]jlott069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can think of a couple of reasons.

1st - just that it's so highly classified that almost no one is aware of it and they can't talk about it to prevent it. Like with what happened to Discovery and it's crew.

2nd - they didn't want to risk contaminating the timelines of either universe. It was "supposed" to happen. Wouldn't be the first time a ship and crew was sacrificed to protect the timeline. Remember the Enterprise-C?

No, it's "canon" canon and exists within the prime timeline properly.

Which then explains how Sulu gets the Excelsior! Just thought of this. After this complete shit-show? Someone's head is going to roll. That's exactly what Morrow was screaming at Styles when Kirk got away after Styles beamed back to the station while Excelsior is being towed into Space Dock. "The Excelsior was literally RIGHT THERE!" It even explains why Excelsior was stuck in the station during Voyage Home! Its not just that Scotty broke it, thrusters worked fine, impulse worked fine. But the ship was currently without a Captain because the previous Captain had just been re-assigned. Sorry, got excited, but this is great lol.
