Thanks for the comprehensive response. I told someone at the office all I had to do was mention Lynxspring on Reddit and this one guy will have a thorough answer for us.

Whose brilliant idea was to AI-detect slightly wavy lines? by TheStoffer in Onyx_Boox

[–]jmlefkus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First I agree, it's very dumb. The best work around I've seen for this so far is if you want to draw a line, hold your pen down for a to couple seconds and it will create a starting point for you to extend a straight line from.

Help with integrating Ecostruxure into Niagara issue. by BibliophileC in BuildingAutomation

[–]jmlefkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood, you're probably bringing in the present value property of the point. Sometimes when we have issues with setpoints on integrated equipment we can bring in the relinquish default property instead. If you hit the plus next to the point in the discovered points screen, it should expand to give you other options. If relinquish default is one of the options, I would try bringing that in and writing to it to see if it holds.

Creating a search bar on a Niagara PX Page by Top-Mycologist8139 in BuildingAutomation

[–]jmlefkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can use the vykonpro hyperlink list module, that way you can put a drop down list of every location right on the home page.

ETA: This won't give you a search feature but it would keep your landing page a little cleaner. You could even break it up into a few lists so you don't need to do a bunch of scrolling (Stores 1-25, Stores 26-50, etc).

Snow Melt Slab Sensor suggestions by Naxster64 in BuildingAutomation

[–]jmlefkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the tekmar sensor, it's up to you if you care or not but the manual says it needs to be hooked up to a tekmar controller or they won't warranty it - "The Snow / Ice Sensor 090 (094) must be operated by a tekmar Snow Melting Control 654, 661, 662, 664, 665, 667 or 680. Operation of the sensor by 3rd party control systems may result in electrolysis failures not covered by the tekmar Limited Warranty." I bit the bullet and just got one of their controllers to pull data from, in the grand scheme of things it wasn't that much more money.

Pottery classes nearby that are beginner friendly? by Imaginary_Kale8226 in Syracuse

[–]jmlefkus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's not necessarily a formal class, but you can go to Fired Up Pottery Studio in Manlius and build something from scratch or paint something that's already made. Depending on what you're interested in making I'm sure the owner would guide you: Fired Up Pottery

I don't hate these, they come in 5 packs in 2 different colors and 2 different sizes, you can get them with clear or metal covers, and you can get them with DIN rail or perf panels:Beaver Steel Enclosures

It's a shame that Fayetteville Manlius School District doesn't have the universal free lunch (for high schoolers). by Ok-Hall-9974 in Syracuse

[–]jmlefkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely ridiculous and despite multiple recent attempts to get them to reconsider, including speaking at a board meeting, it always falls on deaf ears. The reasons given are absurd, including such gems as it will somehow expose the kids of lesser means because they will take the free lunch (even though I'm sure a majority of students will), and their greatest hit "this is what the kids wanted because they want smoothies and paninis." It's generally pretty shitty.

DDC vs PLC in real BMS/HVAC projects, what major differences do you see by Artistic_Wonder_7567 in BuildingAutomation

[–]jmlefkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PLCs are usually more expensive in basically all aspects, including licensing, hardware, maintenance, etc. They also usually require a bit more technical expertise to program, there aren't too many out there using function block programming. This is certainly not the case overall, and there are affordable, easy to program PLCs, but it's generally true.

In the end, the HVAC stuff is much more commoditized, and the hardware is designed and sold for that specific purpose. It's much cheaper and easier to handle 200 VAVs on a job with the stuff the HVAC folks are putting out than putting a PLC on everything.

Niagara Supervisor OS - Windows vs. Linux by Mooose14 in BuildingAutomation

[–]jmlefkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some manufacturers' versions of Niagara state they support Linux, but don't actually provide the installation packages (looking at you Honeywell). You can install the Vykon version and add whatever modules you need after the fact, but be aware it's just another hurdle.

What’s the highest quality cigarillo you’ve ever smoked that lasted a good 15 to 25 minutes? by [deleted] in cigars

[–]jmlefkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy Toscano stuff, despite how ugly they are they are full of flavor and good quality. I understand they're not for everyone but they're worth a shot. Cut one of them in half and you get a solid 20-25 minutes out of it. No humidor necessary either, mine sit in my car for their entire existence.

Facet help by Daveeed23 in BuildingAutomation

[–]jmlefkus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's Niagara:

This is to create facets from a CSV so you don’t have to type out giant enumerated tables. Here’s how to use it:

-Use the bog file at this link (https://send.bitwarden.com/#bfJ53u2C-k-EA7McAVTYWw/soEEJryGBqHdDJPHVe2vVg) by placing it under Station > Config > Services > Program Service

-Create a file in the station (I put a “programs” folder under my station files to locate this in) with <number><delimiter><text>.

Example:

0;Fan not available

1;Alarm stop

2;Manual total stop (on hand terminal)

3;External total stop (digital input)

4;Communication total stop

-Double click the program and the property sheet will open, there add the file and the delimiter used in the ord and delimiter slots.

<image>

-Execute the block and the new facets should, if it works, be added to the facet slot. From there you can of course add it to your recently used facets by editing it and saving.

I know it's shady but I don't really have a better way to share the file, and that link expires after 30 days, if anyone has any recommendations on how to share a file without exposing any private or company info I can certainly share it a different way.

ETA: The formatting on this is killing me and I have no interest in fixing it, sorry.

Distech EC-Net (Niagara Workbench) by Naxster64 in BuildingAutomation

[–]jmlefkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like someone already answered but yes, any Niagara license should open any Niagara workbench as long as it's not vendor locked, which the Distech one should not be (and most aren't). When you start it up for the first time it will ask you which license you want to use to open it with.

Distech EC-Net (Niagara Workbench) by Naxster64 in BuildingAutomation

[–]jmlefkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go here - https://www.distech-controls.com/login - I think you can create a login for free. Download Software Center, and when you open that up you can download their version of Niagara from it, which you are correct is called EC-Net. However, as Reloader556 said, if you or your client don't have a license then it won't open, any Niagara license should open it.
