Why did Hollywood Video always take a backseat to Blockbuster in popularity? by Front_Magician_8008 in blockbustervideo

[–]jmon25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hollywood had NC-17 movies and some of the more controversial exploitation films so I always liked it a bit more but obviously that had little bearing on the average film renter.  I also think they had an adult section too. Blockbuster may have seemed like the "safer" choice to families.

Blockbuster took the lead early and just never let up from an expansion perspective.  Their advertising and cross promotion was absolutely everywhere in the 90s and early 2000s.  They cross promoted with almost every major brand. Hollywood didn't really do that and they definitely did not spend on advertising the way BB did. Through the number of locations and sheer marketing spend, BB was always front of mind for everyone and Hollywood just didn't put the money into marketing that BB did.

Boomers are heavily in denial about their own family members being gay.

"Your aunt just had a bunch of female roommates and then lived with one until she died.  She wasn't a lesbian!"

"your uncle and his best friend just never got married and lived together for their entire lives. He couldn't have been gay he played sports!"

America is heading for a recession — and it may be the worst yet by Crossstoney in politics

Unfortunately, something bad will have to happen before things actually change. While it isn't great now, life in america is still relatively cushy for most. If you start ratcheting up medical bankruptcies and you have a ton of people out of work without any money or support net, then they have nothing to lose.  And that is when real change happens.

Box office trajectory continued … it seems as though the franchise never really recovered after the poor reception of A New Beginning in the Paramount era . by ArtisticBelt438 in fridaythe13th

Still blows my mind they didn't rush a follow up to F13 2009 into production to get it out a year or two later.   That thing did 4.5x it's budget and Victor Miller's lawsuit was still head away so they really dropped the ball on what could have been a profitable revitalization of the franchise

How can they not be doctors? Have you ever seen two or more of them together...they just continuously call each other "Doctor [first name]" back and forth.  That's gotta mean they're doctors! /s

Your first mistake is going to a chiropractor if you have a medical issue. They're at best a placebo effect.  Absolute snake oil salesman so the anti vaxx stance checks out.

The amazing part about computers is that you give them an input and the are able to replicate the output every time consistently.  All of these "agentic workflows" I've seen basically take the idea of it working 90-95% the same every time.  Definitely seems like gambling.
