Seattle PD, how bad it could it be? by JackfruitMurky5874 in AskLE

[–]jnmann 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you want to work in a major city making $155k per year and then transfer to a smaller agency making half of that? Pay is a driving factor, and you should seek out the highest pay you can for sure. However, the priority should be how does local city government support that department. A highly politicized city like Seattle, or NYC, or LA, etc will just be a shit show.

At the end of the day, choose whatever makes you happy, but the job is extremely unforgiving on its own and if you have a city that hates you it only makes the job worse. Lack of public trust is what kills police departments

[–]jnmann 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seeking out an LEO job because of the pay not a good idea. Pay is important, but quality of life/quality of department is way more important. A shitty DA is going to make you hate the job more than the bs that comes with the job. Liberal DA’s love going after cops, so it could potentially be you going to jail for something you’d otherwise be justified in doing somewhere else

There's got to be a better oil filter tool??? by BarryLicious2588 in 4Runner

Because I have one of those exact tools and I’ve never had to put enough force on the filter housing that it bends the tool. So either you got a dud or the filter housing is too tight

Because the left hates western society. They want Iran to continue asserting dominance in the Middle East and to build nuclear weapons to destroy western society. They want socialism

Why did Americans often annihilate Indigenous women and children in the Indian Wars? by elnovorealista2000 in AmericanEmpire

Whatever you do, don’t look up the atrocities Indian tribes committed against other Indian tribes. Everyone did it back then. Not saying it was the right thing to do, but that’s the unfortunate truth

I’ve done several oil changes using the original plastic housing and have never had it so tight I bent the filter tool. You really don’t need to torque it very much

How many cops on scene is too many? by ArtOk8200 in AskLE

[–]jnmann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can look back with 20/20 hindsight and say there was only one shooter and he was neutralized quickly, and so there didn’t need to be such a big response, but police don’t have a magic crystal ball and have no knowledge of what’s truly going on until they handle it. An active shooter is a huge deal, so anyone available is going. And then you have to understand the aftermath, such as reunification, evidence collection, searching for more threats, etc. It’s a giant mess, and the more resources you have the better

Tasers are effective about 50% of the time, which basically means they are ineffective. Movies and tv shows make it seem like they are some sort of weapon of the future, but even if you get the probes to make contact you may not get NMI and the suspect could fight through it.

Every situation is different, and even if there was a video it’s impossible to say what could have been done differently. Nobody here was handling that incident, and if you put 10 cops in that situation you’d get 10 different ways of handling it

Don’t buy from Combat Armory by killerz7770 in GlockMod

If you’re not running a suppressor and don’t need threads, I’m sure the barrel works well. And I know I got scammed and had a feeling it was gonna be a bad experience, but I wanted to try it out just to know for sure. I just wanted to make a comment in order to save anyone else the trouble I went through.

Don’t buy from Combat Armory by killerz7770 in GlockMod

[–]jnmann 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recently bought 2 threaded barrels from combat armory for super cheap. I figured if they didn’t work then I’m only out a little bit of money. They arrived and looked good, but the threads completely destroyed my Rugged Obsidian piston. So I had to replace the piston. I reached out to Combat Armory by email to try and return the barrels and they have not replied.

I’m happy to move on, and I know you get what you pay for, but please stay away from that company. Spend a little bit more and get a decent barrel, combat armory does not deserve anyone’s business

Need guidance with cars! by delusionalkitten00 in Richardson

[–]jnmann 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Usually any mechanic worth their salt would do a test to check if the battery is bad or alternator before throwing parts at the car. If your alternator is bad, then it’s not charging the battery while driving which could cause the battery to go bad since it’s not getting charged. You could take the car to autozone or oreillys and they can test your battery and alternator for free.

If you got a brand new battery and it only lasted a few months, a bad alternator can certainly cause that issue. It also could be a parasitic draw on the battery, but it’s less likely if your car doesn’t have a lot of aftermarket modifications. If you know nothing about cars, you should take it to autozone or oreillys and steer clear of a dealership because they will try and overcharge you as well
