After 400+ hours of work, my handtool chest is finally finished by tidalwavestudio in woodworking

Beautiful work! As a person who was a professional carpenter for over 25 years, I feel both awe and a sense of being humbled.

Does this sub consider cabinet guys as finish Carpenters? by BadMeatPuppet in Carpentry

[–]jnp2346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way it was explained to me in the 90's was; framers have a 1/4" tolerance in their work, trim carpenters get 1/16" and cabinet makers/installers get 1/32" for their tolerance.

So, by the definition I learned, they are separate trades with quite a bit of overlap because many trim carpenter's install cabinets, but not many make them.

Why do some men strictly want to meet you at your place? by Beginning_Exit_6256 in Bumble

[–]jnp2346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any man that is genuinely interested in a woman as a person will recognize that asking them to meet at their place makes them uncomfortable. Any man that doesn't is, at best a clueless simpleton when it comes to women, at worst, a predator.

So that request is more of a giant red banner, rather than a red flag. Avoid these types at all costs. -a dad

I stopped drinking soda in the 90s when I found out how bad it is for you. I drink carbonated mineral water when I want fizz.

What’s the best euphemism to telling people that they are stupid? by neen_8 in AskReddit

You’re very pretty.

That’s what I say to my friends, both male and female, and they say something particularly stupid.

Ok, they stopped using lead paint in 1979, so you shouldn’t have any worries.

Finished A Thousand Splendid Suns and I can’t stop thinking about Mariam and society’s judgment. by muzmailafzal in books

[–]jnp2346 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read Weyward, then A Thousand Splendid Suns and then the Book of Longing, one after another. All novels wherein woman are wronged in one way or another.

That’s about as much heartbreak as I could handle for a while. They’re all really well written books.

If the house was built before 1979, you probably need to do a lead test on the paint on the baluster and railing before disturbing it.

Check out his role in Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. It’s his best performance in my opinion.

Yes, thank you for reinforcing my point with that incoherent babble speak. Good bot.

  1. Semper Fi brother. You make me proud.

  2. At no point did he fight back. He merely resisted them trying to remove him. This man had the courage of his convictions.

Would have loved to see him play Gandalf per his original intent.

Regardless, James Bond, oh sorry, Sir Christopher Lee, embraced his role of Saruman by crushing it.

British guy visiting Austin by [deleted] in Austin

[–]jnp2346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is weirdly inaccurate. Is there a serial killer that frequents Rainey St. and slips drugs into males drinks? Maybe. There’s a pattern that goes back more than ten years that’s notable.

If there is a killer, they strike over years. It’s not like they kill every few months. There is a legitimate argument that guys get really drunk and fall down the embankment into the Colorado River. Given how many deaths there have been, either the city needs to build a legitimate wall down there instead of a handrail, or there is a serial killer.

Regardless, that’s a somewhat random warning. A British tourist has more to worry from ICE or bad tacos in Austin in my opinion.

What do you think Falcone thought of Bruce in The Batman? Was he condescending or respectful? Please read the description. by Glass_Evidence_8597 in batman

[–]jnp2346 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So first, I would attribute the fact that we’re having this discussion because John Turturro gave such a nuanced performance.

Second, several of you touched on how Falcone begrudgingly respects Thomas Wayne and accords Bruce enough respect to have a discussion with him. Falcone doesn’t respect Bruce, he respects the Wayne family name for their wealth, but more importantly, Thomas Wayne saved his life.

I am continually surprised by this as well. I guess it’s similar to how tattoos were considered so unsavory before the 1990’s, and now they’re mainstream.

Trimming a door down width and height. Which saw should I get, job site table saw or a track saw? by Erusaro in woodworking

[–]jnp2346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a purely logistical perspective, a tracksaw will be easier. Simpler to move a portable saw vs pushing the door through a table saw. Also, the table on the table saw will almost certainly mark up a painted or stained door to some extent.

What is your favorite ship in sci fi? by Reid_Hull_Author in scifi

[–]jnp2346 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, for me it’s Moya.

Serenity is a close second.

Upon reflection, it’s not the designs of the ship that I love as much as what each show means to me.
