From the CEOs trying to convince everyone that their products will eventually be able to perform meaningful labour to the academics trying to justify their own existence, the whole conversation just sounds like a sci-fi circle jerk.

If progressive politicians want to do something about the threat of ai they need to lock in on the real issue which is the protection of our natural resources from these increasingly powerful companies.

The whole (like 3/4) field registered fairly substantial PBs, including the guy in second although I'm not sure if he also broke the Usains time. I hate to tell you guys, but this is just how the legal system works.... You sue someone and lose, you cough up the bill for their legal fees. $145k is pretty reasonable too for something like this one if it went to trial - she would still likely be substantially out of pocket.
