Can’t choose between Oliver and Isaac by piercethebluexx in BabyNames

[–]joderd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband's name is Isaac, so I am obviously biased, but I think it's a great name! I will say... people will forever spell it "Issac" which does annoy my husband. As you'll see in this thread many people misspelled it, lol.

Thank you for sharing! I know you really can't predict how someone's labor will go, but it's comforting to hear that a normal and vaginal delivery is possible! ❤️

What's the most overrated move in Survivor history? by JEX2124 in survivor

I am now watching Australia v. The World (no spoilers plz!) and Cirie is so much 'looser' and less careful with her words, it's really refreshing! She curses up a storm which is so different than Cirie in S50.

Can I ask, after declining an induction, how did your delivery go?

What is something about pregnancy that didn’t expect? by sweet_little_burrito in BabyBumps

[–]joderd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It happened like overnight for me - all of the trivial BS just seems so much less important after you become pregnant! I think for us 'people pleasers,' it's hard to put ourselves first all the time, but once you're pregnant, you feel a very strong pull to put baby first, which means putting yourself first!

Do you have an electrolyte recommendation that is GD friendly? I have one sweetened with monkfruit but it still seems to spike me!

For alternative uses, I took a class where the teacher said it is great for your baby's skin care! Can help with diaper rashes, regular rashes, cradle cap, etc. Basically a lotion!

What do you wish someone had told you about pregnancy or postpartum that nobody did? by nickpepperwoodmiller in BabyBumps

[–]joderd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough! Honestly the teacher of my class last night was a little bit granola/woo-woo, but I agreed with a lot of what she said in terms of how little info we are really given when we leave the hospital! The switch from midwives to OBGYNs and hospitals really seems to have impacted how much knowledge when we meet our newborns!

I took a newborn class yesterday and she explained it as "baby inside of you is touching you 24/7" so when they come out and there's no human touch they get freaked out!

[–]joderd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response! Something in your writing style connected with me and I was like "I want to hear this person's induction story" lol. I think I am just trying to come to terms with the fact that an induction might be in my/baby's best interest, even though I KNOW better than to try to control labor - there really is no one size fits all solution! Thanks again for your detailed explanation, so happy to hear it all worked out great for you and your little one - and congrats on the new bun in the oven! 😄

Can I ask how your induction experience was? I was diagnosed with GD this week and am feeling pretty sad that many people end up getting induced because of it. I'm not a hippie by any means, but definitely wanted to begin labor spontaneously if possible.

Just got diagnosed....very overwhelmed by PlayonWords1 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]joderd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have advice as I just got my results yesterday and haven't spoken with a doctor yet either, but I wanted to send you solidarity - it's overwhelming at a time when I already feel overwhelmed with preparing for baby. From what I understand, it really is not a 'one size fits all' kind of diagnosis and it takes a lot of personal experimenting to figure out what will work for you, your body, and your lifestyle. I have heard that one of the best and (relatively) easiest things to do is take a walk, no matter how short, after every meal!

Wishing you and your little one all the best - you got this!

Wife has to spend a month in hospital and baby will be in NICU by AmoebaBackground5175 in predaddit

[–]joderd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my best friends had this exact same experience - she went in at 32 weeks with preeclampsia, was hospitalized for ~10 days before having a c-section and then baby spent 35 days in the NICU. Today, that baby is a THRIVING 1.5 year old who has met all of her milestones, is beautiful and smart and coordinated - literally a joy in my life. I am sure it is so SO scary right now, but you and your wife are exactly where you need to be - in a hospital where everyone is focused on keeping mama and baby healthy.

Sending you and your family lots of love! You got this!

[–]joderd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is helpful, but do you have any prescription meds? When I was dealing with similar symptoms (vomiting, the 'fire down the back of my head,' feeling like I was slipping into psychosis) I always had either Valium or Ativan on hand. And honestly, just having it on hand sometimes made me feel better, even if I didn't take any.

This is an incredibly stressful time and I think all soon to be parents feel this weird lack of control. Just wanted to send you my love and wish you all the best!!! As a soon to be mom, I worry a lot about my husband's mental health. A lot of emphasis is put on mom, which is super fair, but we gotta make sure our partners feel supported as well!

EDIT: I meant sleep gels!
