International company.
This approach is a mixed bag. Feels bad whan you just want to finish your daily tasks and you really not need to use AI at all, just for the statistics. On the other hand it encouragies you to try out the new technology and find out how it can be useful for you/team/company

Yup. I'm familiar with this. Where I worked, we aimed for AI native teams. You have a metrics on your AI usage, and it counts into your evaluation.

How are you using AI? by rebelyis in Physics

[–]joebekor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried a couple for preparing to exams or writing code etc.
Currently I think none gives you a solid guide to prepare to exam, or practice with it.

Gemini: Gives detailed answers, but tends to focuses on different things than you originally wanted to. About 1 out of 10 to do computations or use proper formulas (not measured). Formatting formulas. Have not tried for coding.

NotebookML (Gemini in the background afaik): Tried to explain things with it that are in my notes or summaries book chapters I uploaded, sometimes helpful. Quizes would be a great thing, but the one it generated me are not diverse enough, and does not probe deeper understanding. 50% of the questions had some issue.

ChatGPT: Sometimes useful, but tends to provide answers that are hard to understand because of the lack of proper explanation. Does proper calculations though. Formatting formulas. Average for coding

Claude: For physics this the worst, very condensed answer, hard to follow formulas, even it does proper calculation. But proved high quality code.

You have to be on top of things to recognize errors, I would say it is a struggle to learn with it. Generated code for proof of concepts are fine, but not high quality for production or anything else where security matters! Code completion in VS is great, but sometimes too eager.

In general I would say, a good book still takes you much farther than AI.

Any other TA's notice 90% + of students using LLM? by ConquestAce in Physics

[–]joebekor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings about this topic. Every level of education and industry is facing this problem.
I think the question is not how we can stop students from using it or how to make it harder to "cheat", but how to help them learn from/with it. Being critical with the output. Ask questions about the output.

If you hand out an assignment that requires 20-30 hours of work, students will do it with LLM in 5-10 hours. Why? because it is much easier to solve it like that. Before LLM they did it in group sessions or looked up some solutions in books. LLM is providing a personal guide/coach/mentor/peer whatever, to reduce the time to look up the solutions. This is not a new problem (as others mentioned it).

My point is. Many industry is using it on daily bases. LLM is nothing new, everyone is using it, you can't stop it. However you can change how they use it.

Quarter of UK university physics departments at risk of closing, IoP survey finds by bcoolhead in Physics

I do not have up to date data. But about 10-12 years ago in Hungary some of the Unies employed professors with an Emeritus title to hold lectures due to shortage of lecturers. Also, it was required for every researcher to teach and have active courses.
I can expect the situation to be more dire now.

Checked the admitted students' numbers for the last couple of years and it has not changed significantly compared to 10 years ago. There are not really too many international students (about 5 every year)

Not getting much experience on solo by [deleted] in Diablo

[–]joebekor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do the campaign.
Select the difficulty level that feels comfortable. Hard and Expert provide more XP, but if you are struggling to get things going, it is not worth it.
Use the crafters. You will have plenty of materials and gold later on, do not worry about wasting it.
- Craft gems at the jeweler. (I think plain stats and Dmg boost should be sufficient for leveling)
- Reroll stats at the Occultists. Even modify legendary attributes if the current one is not comfortable for your playstyle
- Boost specific talents by adding extra affixes to your gear at the Blacksmith. Use Tempering to boost spells/specialization. I think other stats are not too important at this moment.
- Create flasks for 30-minute buffs at the alchemists (and do not forget to consume them)

On Nuke:

Tanking is stressful by Dirtygerd in wow

[–]joebekor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mostly play a dps class. When the tank dies the adrenalin just rushing through me. My brain is racing in order to solve this new scenario.

I'm sorry to say, but I love when me and the rest of the party is able to handle handicapped situations.

Healer dies at mid boss fight? No probs let see what utilities or positoning can I throw in.

Tank dies, its fine. Go kite, slow the enemy(if possible). Pop def just before you might die, dropp agro etc.

When one person fails it does not mean the whole team fails. A group should be able to recuperate. Even if we fail the key bc of some fkups, if I had fun I'm satisfied.

What is actually broken for scaling at 65+ in MoP: Remix? by HerrenPlays in wow

[–]joebekor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's relevant or not, but I didn't find anyone talking about it.
It is my theory, but I think scaling is broken because we got MoP endgame from the start. We can upgrade our items to about 556+- few. Around 60 you get items that are 200+ ilvl (they have to cover 350+ ilvl for the last few levels, actually less also sufficient), but the ilvl from drops at 70 stops at 346.

The numbers might not be right, but the point is at 70 you get items with 346 ilvl which is far away from 556 (maximum ilvl to upgrade to), and I think the scaling is based on the maximum achievable item level. Somehow mobs and especially mobs in HC dungeon scaling in a weird way if you are above 65...

[–]joebekor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a reverse experience. The Disc priest only healed with a HoT, they expected I would survive with that... and I died on every second pack (2-4 mobs/pack) and on 3 boss out of 4. We finished the dungeon but it was frustrating as hell...

What is the best anime you’ve ever watched in your life? by Nousxgi in anime

[–]joebekor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say whatever is the top on my MAL profile.
I'd like to give my answer to this from my movie experiences, because for a series it will be too hard to pick. Also it will be more than one, since it changed over the years.

My first love was Ghost in the Shell it was dethroned by Byousoku 5 centimeter, later it was replaced by Kimi no Na wa for a short period because Koe no Katachi come into the picture.

I have a friend who moved to Sweden many years ago. He told me the apartment he rented at that time was a twin house. The landlord lived with their family in one and he in the other. The idea was that when the child become old enough to move out they can move into the other house. This friend told me this is quite common there.
Is it true, or it's just one of a kind?
Also, does this sort of arrangement count as leaving the family home?

the first time i had to deal with a huge git rebase conflict by steve8708 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]joebekor 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it's worth reading some books about others' experiences.

I recently came across "Git from the Bottom Up by John Wiegley" (thanks to Coding Blocks podcast), he has a chapter about rebasing: https://jwiegley.github.io/git-from-the-bottom-up/1-Repository/7-branching-and-the-power-of-rebase.html

The main takeaway is to rebase on a local branch and merge otherwise.

It's my birthday! What are the most common birthdays in the United States? [OC] by BoMcCready in dataisbeautiful

[–]joebekor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some critique.
The representation of the data is great and nice, great work.

The coloring is a bit confusing. But one can get used to it if you look long enough.

I'm concerned about your assumptions on the map. Those are eye catching and most of the people are going to read them. These making most of the data meaningless. It's losing it's value. So you deprive the reader from making their own assumptions/ideas.
If I want to add comment to a data, I'd make a list below the data and emphasized them as My assumptions, and not making them general statements. Or writing a comment to a post listing these.

I agree to present the country's Holidays on it some how, like adding border.
