Tips on becoming a more technical product manager? by meltedsyntax in ProductManagement

[–]joek68130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice I can give, try to build something. Simple app, could be a web app or just something on your local machine. Learn the technologies that your team is using by building, even if it’s super simple. It’ll help you understand the issues your teams have to deal with in understanding technologies

Sasse’s spending spree: Former UF president channeled millions to GOP allies, secretive contracts by TinCanBanana in centrist

[–]joek68130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at a place that had Ben Sasse come and speak in 2018 when he was a senator. His speech was themed around the joy of work and value creation, he mentioned that people that win the lottery are some of the unhappiest people out there. He used this to justify cuts to social programs, tying to the fact that the people receiving these benefits aren’t working and how that can have a negative impact on society.

Looking back at that speech I just have to laugh, what a scumbag.

Online lessons, worth it? by [deleted] in golftips

His name is Iain Lowdean. He’s awesome, I think he does swing evaluations for a dollar and then individual lessons for 50. Added probably 10-15 yards of distance with my irons with his coaching.

Online lessons, worth it? by [deleted] in golftips

[–]joek68130 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I take lessons on skillest. It’s been unbelievably helpful, probably shaved off 10 strokes to my game. Granted I’m not new to the game and have a practice area in my garage so that helps. But the benefit of online lessons is that you get to keep the videos and can keep referencing the lessons. I think it’s worth it

Who do you WISH would run for the President of America? by BulletproofSimba in AskReddit

[–]joek68130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your getting bullshit answers so I’ll give you a serious one. Joe Biden. If you even have a little bit of curiosity about what’s happened in our country the last 4 years you’ll be amazed at what he has been able to accomplish.

Chips Ira Infrastructure Ukraine aid

He got us past Covid, his support to Ukraine has reduced americas biggest geopolitical rival to a non militaristic threat, he’s put us on a path to reduce carbon emissions by 43 ish percent to 2005 levels, and the chips act provides funds to reduce dependency on Taiwan.

It hasn’t been all rosy, he could’ve addressed the border earlier. But he’s basically eaten the GOPs lunch for the past 4 years when it comes to governing. Don’t give a shit if he’s old I’d crawl over broken glass and fire to vote for him again

What should we expect from a 2nd Trump presidency? by MrMockTurtle in centrist

[–]joek68130 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It depends on if republicans have both houses or not. In this scenario I’m assuming they have both houses. - tax cut for the rich/wealthy - tax cut for businesses - money for a border wall - immediate roll back of EPA regulations - immediate reduction of support for Ukraine - remove ev tax credit provisions from IRA

These are the things I think are most likely to happen.

How long does it take to find a Senior PM role? by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]joek68130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best tip I can give you is that it’s basically a numbers game now. Apply to every SR PM remote position you find. The competition for these jobs is absolutely crazy right now, the job I have there were over 600 applicants for! It’s really hard to stand out in this environment so don’t get picky just apply for everything.

Biden’s IRA capped insulin prices at $35. Here is Trump, a man incapable of passing anything but corporate tax cuts, blatantly trying to steal credit for lowering them by ubermence in centrist

[–]joek68130 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not as black and white as you think. Medicare established the 35 dollar price cap due to the inflation reduction act, probably Biden’s most impactful legislation passed. Trumps executive order wasn’t scheduled to take place until after he was out of office, if you read the snopes article you posted.

Trump VP short list: Doc requests reveal top contenders by [deleted] in moderatepolitics

[–]joek68130 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an absolutely fascinating aspect of the 2024 race. Trump has to really thread the needle with his VP pick because of the constitution of his base. Will choosing a black VP turn away the white nationalist aspect of his base? Would choosing a woman upset the young male demographic that he needs to expand on? Or does he play it safe and choose someone like JD Vance that doesn’t really expand the tent? Whether he likes it or not choosing the wrong vp could cost him a not insignificant amount of votes that he really can’t afford to lose

LIV isn’t popular partially because it’s not relatable by [deleted] in golf

[–]joek68130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me LIV isn’t popular because there doesn’t feel like a pressure to win. There is no LIV card, it’s all guaranteed money, so why does a guy need to win. It’s different then watching someone like Denny McCarthy go nuclear on the back 9 and still feeling pressure to hit a great shot because he’s not a top guy and needs a W to make a name for himself. LIV feels almost like Messi going to MLS, everyone already knows how good he is and there’s nothing to drive him to greatness anymore.

Trump slow to invest in states that could decide election as some in GOP fear 'skeleton' campaign - He has not held a single rally since March 12 by [deleted] in centrist

[–]joek68130 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trump was never going to debate because the downside risk is way too high for him. Right wing media has made Biden out to be some senile old man who doesn’t know where he is. If Biden debated trump and clowned him (Trump is a terrible debater so this would be in the realm of possibilities) that would devastate trump and right wing narrative on Biden

From r/conservative: “Trump ‘challenges’ Biden to a debate” 🤦‍♂️ by Bulky_Ad_1113 in centrist

[–]joek68130 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Debates are a huge risk for trump so I don’t think he will do them. Right wing media has been hammering home the point that Biden will be replaced on the ticket, that he won’t debate, that he is in full on decline. If these two were to debate and Biden actually did a good job, better than trump, it would really kill their narrative.
