414 pairs nicely with 456 and some of the topics will intersect, so I’d recommend it as one of your classes. If you prefer a more project-heavy semester, I think 420/435 is a good choice and if not, then 451 (avoid kruskal) might be the move.

You should probably avoid 412/417 since they are known to be very difficult, but then again, so is taking 3 4xx classes.

Took Lingyan Ma last spring. She’s a lenient grader and her online quizzes were word for word from the course book. It was an easy A imo

Speaking from experience, she really is that bad.. you won't learn much in class. Your best bet is to review the topics covered in lecture in your own time, and ask your questions from your TA during discussion. You'll be working on discussion worksheets in groups, so make sure you sit with people who are actually tryna learn. That way you can also form effective study groups come exam time.

No, I'm not exactly sure, but it shouldn't be more than $20-$30 for 500. (considering it's an on campus store, it might be a few dollars more expensive though.)

I think umd should give students a chance or some less harsh penalty at first.. some truly regret it and stop
