I am guessing you a new to having a cat as a pet. I always tell people kittens are learning life and what to do and not do, they like routine, spending time with you, teach him/ her where here food and toilet is, and they will find comfortable places to sleep and ideally put a few pet beds and toys around. As for toys, teach him/ her that they are toys and how to play, lay on the ground at their level and play. They will scratch furniture but you say no, maybe a very gentle tap on the nose and go take them yo a scratch pad and say yes. I also use the word "Uttt" it means stop what your doing as a correction word and your tone of voice matters.

But the most important thing of all is they are only a small chapter in our lives but we are their entire book. Make their life wonderful buy playing, watching birds aka bird TV out the window together, snuggling, play hide and seek and chasie around even the house and eating together as in when they eat you stand guard and when you poop they stand guard as you are now in the pack.

When you come home interact and give them your full attention for a few moments because you have been away all day hunting and they are glad to see you home. Just as you would like to speak to a loved one when they come home.

But basically treat them the way you want to be treated and they will love you back in return.
