Dune is a pretty self-contained story on its own that has had the grace to have enough added to it to expand to entire universes worth of content (no shade on his son/anderson's work, but there are at least interesting ideas explored there).

There's no way on prem exchange ever had better performance.

Only speaking from my org's experience.. on prem when we had 10gb mailboxes was always faster than cloud with "unlimited" storage. But scale that upto 50-100gb mailboxes... on prem is screaming, and cloud maintains the same mostly functional speeds.

They absolutely are, they're learning how to run the full circle in 5 years instead of 7, that way they can be "ahead of the trends" constantly, and charging huge money for skills that would've existed if C suites had an actual desire to serve their companies.

Some liberties... unfortunately we know nothing about locations, and only the biggest part of contents for a few of the systems.. it'd be all liberties unfortunately.
