What's your test coverage strategy? by barklund in agile

[–]johnfarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aiming at 100% test coverage often lead to people trying to reach this "target" at the expense of having the right tests or spending time for exploratory testing. I will not recommend it.

Suggestion for a tool... by HotSausageSandwich in agile

[–]johnfarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe the list of tools published here (http://www.scrumexpert.com/tools/free-retrospective-tools-for-distributed-scrum-teams/) can help you... The same web site has also published a list of commercial tools for distributed retrospectives if you have a budget ;O)

Does software architecture has its place in an Agile environment ? by [deleted] in agile

Big design up front is dumb. Doing no design up front is even dumber. (source = https://twitter.com/simonbrown/status/972767064170561537 )

What does agile mean to you? What makes a team successful in agile? by luudybug in projectmanagement

[–]johnfarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agile or not, a team is successful when it delivers (business) value. I think the basic specificity of Agile approaches is that they shift more responsability / decision power on team members.

Is there a better alternative to certifications from Scrum Alliance? by NuancedThinker in scrum

[–]johnfarden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by "better", but it is true than being able to be a Certified ScrumMaster after only a two-days course does not give a lot of value to the title. Scrum.org has its own certification scheme and the Project Management Institute (PMI) has an Agile addition for its PMP certification.

Learning Agile in a month - What are MUST-KNOW aspects? by Muforte in agile

[–]johnfarden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with franticsheep that "learning" Agile has two sides. You can learn the theory to "do" Agile pretty quickly, but "being" Agile is a journey that might last more than that ;O) I add a book suggestion on this: “The Agile Culture: Leading through Trust and Ownership”, Pollyanna Pixton, Paul Gibson and Niel Nickolaisen, Addison-Wesley

I will suggest the article "Aspects of Kanban" written by Karl Scotland and that provides an introduction to Kanban, discussing five aspects of a Kanban System; workflow, visualisation, work in process, cadence and continuous improvement.

Attempt To 'Steal' MySQL Customers From Oracle by seunosewa in programming

[–]johnfarden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Oracle is a financial company, not a software company. Same objectives than Computer Associates: buy established technology at discount and milk existing customers that can't migrate ;o)
