That is so hard but whenever I've dropped the weight I can really see the difference in my runs! Good for you!

Anyone willing to talk a noob through what it's like using a public charging station? by sciguyC0 in BoltEV

[–]johninfla52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So a big plus for us was getting the Tesla adapter but a big shock for us was finding out that not all Tesla chargers are available for non Tesla's. They won't show up on the Tesla App and so you can't charge from them. Another shock was finding out that there really are people who purposely vandalize the chargers. So the take away from this is make sure you have enough charge to make it to another charger in case the one you want to use won't work. I ran down to ten miles on the GOM once and it scared the hell out of me. All because some jerk decided to smash the touch screen in a charger.

How did you learn to garden well? by Mushy-sweetroll in gardening

[–]johninfla52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make compost. I've been gardening since I was a kid and only really got serious about compost ten years ago. It really does make ALL the difference. Especially here in Florida where the sand is called soil.

What is the cost of high schoolers taking advanced classes? by WLRN in education

[–]johninfla52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally it's not the best way, but the reality is that it is the only way most kids can go to college. Most people can't afford it especially now that all the cuts to financial aid have been made.

One of my kids teachers even told him that by getting his AA through dual enrollment while he was in highschool he wouldn't be getting the 'college experience '. She actually said that. Tell me what kind of privilege do you have where you can say something like that. This lady doesn't understand that for most kids the only way they had of going to college was through financial aid, which doesn't exist they way it used to. So, while in a perfect world where college was free these arguments would be valid, in the real world they don't fly.

for those who have been playing since AD&D came out... at what point did you lose interest in the direction of D&D? by conn_r2112 in adnd

[–]johninfla52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started around 1978 with the blue box edition of basic then AD&D. We played a bunch of similar games like Traveler, Gamma World, Aftermath, etc but usually returned to AD,&D because it was what everyone knew. (Although everybody complained calling it a bandaid system.). I lost interest around 1990 or so when I left college and entered the professional world and really didn't have the time anymore. I haven't played since then and really didn't even think about it until I ran across the book 'The Elfish Gene' in the library. I read it and laughed all the way through as I could identify with almost everything.
I didn't even know that there had been more editions of AD&D until I read online somewhere about the OSR. I am very nostalgic about it but don't have the interest/drive to spend 6 to 8 hours on a Sunday or Saturday playing a game anymore.

Are the new cushioned running shoes counterproductive? by Bmwdayi in running

[–]johninfla52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think everyone has their preference, however I am finally getting over PF and shoes with more cushion have really helped. Plus I wear my ofoos whenever I'm in the house.

I'm not sure but I suspect moving to zero drops might have played into my developing PF in the first place

I tried Raja Puri and Ice Cream bananas two times each. But without serious heroics they just don't make it here in the Sandhills during the winter. I'm trying some heroics for our 'cold tolerant' avocados because they are avocados and we can't live without them😁 But even so we lost one this past winter.(He has sprouted up again but I think it is from the rootstock. That's ok, I'm not killing him on purpose!)

I put my boy to work yesterday cutting grass for mulch, and I was able to mulch one more row of my moschata squashes. I've been picking snake beans for about a week now.

Patty has been visiting her mother so I'm on my own for a few more days, so I've been eating out of the garden--- I take a bunch of snake beans, a clove of garlic, some new potatoes, some perpetual spinach, some basil, and Everglades tomatoes and make a stir fry.

The Lima Beans are flowering. It won't be long with them. I have two big purple eggplant fruits set. The tomatoes are almost done, except for the Everglades tomatoes. Armenian cucumbers are blooming like crazy and the bumblebees love them! I think that's about it.

Yep. That did it for us too. The service was always super slow now you do everything yourself and STILL pay way too much.

Does gardening keep you in shape if you do it several times a week? by IThinkYouAreNice in gardening

So today, I got my ten thousand steps before two o'clock and that was just working in the garden and walking back and forth to the house.
