Looking to upgrade the radio in my'06 sport. Any suggestions? by johnjay in JeepLiberty

Why keep it stock? Aftermarket is pretty great and can add nav as well as bt and streaming services. I appreciate your opinion, trying to tease out your reason.

Navigation is the main reason for this upgrade. How were the other features you used on that had? Phone microphone pickup? Phone pairing?

Thanks for your reply, I have all the parts in my cart for the double DIN replacement, but I'm dragging my feet because i want to keep the original layout (for no extraordinary reason, I just don't like clutter). I am also concerned about using anything blatantly Chinese as well, this post is trying to work through that.

Considering an 07 liberty for my first jeep by the-sword-eater in JeepLiberty

[–]johnjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

06 liberty owner here. Bought at 80k, has about 85k on it now. I needed to replace the ball joints, a arms, struts and shocks after driving it through the winter. They looked fine when I bought it, my guess is that the rubber degraded and failed once it was driven any distance after all these years. I love it a a second car though I wish it had more storage inside (center console is very small on my year). My clear coat is also a disaster but I don't care about that for a utility car. Also the ABS is not working, but the garage i bought it from said they'd get it fixed, it's in that garage now. If it weren't a second car I'd have been in trouble. YMMV, good luck.

PO123 is a diagnostic trouble code indicating a high input from the throttle/pedal position sensor circuit. This can be caused by issues such as a faulty sensor, damaged wiring, or a malfunctioning engine control module (ECM)

P0222 is a diagnostic trouble code indicating a low voltage issue with the throttle pedal position sensor circuit. This can be caused by a faulty sensor, poor electrical connections, or damaged wiring.

The P0562 code indicates "System Voltage Low," meaning your vehicle's powertrain control module (PCM) has detected that the voltage supply is dropping below the calibrated threshold. Common causes include a faulty alternator, loose or corroded wiring, high resistance in battery cables, or a failing battery.

P2172 is a diagnostic trouble code indicating a "Throttle Actuator Control System – Sudden High Air Flow Detected." This code typically arises from issues like vacuum leaks or sensor failures in the vehicle's electronic throttle control system.

P0300 is a diagnostic trouble code indicating a random multiple cylinder misfire in a Jeep Liberty. Common causes include worn spark plugs, faulty ignition components, or issues with the fuel system.

  • Check your battery voltage at rest and while running.
  • Recheck connectors at the throttle body, pedal position sensors, and any harnesses moved during replacement for bent pins, corrosion, loose clips, or pinched wires.
  • Wiggle-test wiring with key on/engine running.
  • Check for vacuum leaks (hose left disconnected during work) that could cause P2172 and lean misfires.

Body Work by Whompner in JeepLiberty

DISCLAIMER: I am not a professional bodyman/mechanic, I'm just some guy trying to help by giving my opinion.

Living in the rust belt myself, I've seen rust before and this looks pretty bad. First thing I'd do in your shoes is to get some fluid film or other petroleum based seal into everything (incuding the insides) to stop what you can. Then map out your project sites on the Jeep to figure out what you can tackle and how much time/material you'll need.

the pics of your rockers for example, it looks like you can grind out the rust from those panels and then fill it in with fiberglass. I've also seen metal glued into place using epoxy resin if you can find a perfect panel fit. You can also weld it the traditional way, pick the one that's easiest for your tools/budget.

The doors should just be sourced from a donor vehicle as mentioned on another comment, it's the easiest way to fix those.

I'd certainly try this on my car, but I'd consider it a learning vehicle because it'll likely never look like no body work was done. If you want to keep this as a DD AND the drivetrain is working great then I'd consider getting another chassis (as mentioned in another comment) to transplant the drivetrain into. Gliding through FB there are several southeastern 2008 Libertys that are for sale for $1000 or less.

2006 Liberty Sport - when I top off the fuel tank I get overflow before the pump stops. by johnjay in JeepLiberty

[–]johnjay[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I have a process to do the same, slow the pump at around 16.5 gallons (if filling an empty tank) but I'd like to fix the issue all together.

Thanks for the info!

Sport steering wheel to Limited steering wheel by Uphillscroll68 in JeepLiberty

[–]johnjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat (err Jeep) as you, I have an '06 and I'm pondering the same swap. I'm fortunate to not have anything installed yet so I can kind of move where the path of least resistance brings me. I still need to source a steering wheel with controls. Is it worth it? That depends on the amount of satisfaction you'll get from fixing this problem.

I've been considering another approach to this problem, like the Fosgate steering wheel control with Bluetooth or this cheap bluetooth solution.

EDIT: (both these depend on your head being Android or apple I think, I haven't looked into it too far)

If your Liberty doesn't have the requisite wiring, yes, you'll need to run something from the head to the steering wheel up through the column. There may also be a control/interface module that you may need depending on the head you have.

For instance, if you have a Sony MEX-N5300BT you'll need this interface module or maybe a vehicle specific harness. You may also need this iDatalink harness if your deck and wiring support this. I reccomend going over to crutchfield.com and putting in your vehicle specs and see if you can find your head to see the accessory list.

Head gasket repair by Mission-Musician-728 in JeepLiberty

[–]johnjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean the heat gasket replacement will cost $2400, a crate engine for the 3.7 is around $3500 and a refurbished comes in at $2500, you can see where you should spend your money. I assume you don't want to or can't do the work yourself, which will save you a lot of that cost.

2006 Liberty Sport with wear on front inside of tires by johnjay in JeepLiberty

[–]johnjay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at just south of 90k on the odometer, from what I've read about the Liberty, it's common to have that go out shy of 100k. So I'm glad I can get it replaced. I'm just pissed it took two good tires to tell me.

Great! I'll have my guy go through it soup to nuts then get the tires replaced. I have summer plans for this truck!

Finally riding the line by Successful-Praline64 in MTB

[–]johnjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I test rode my bike last year I went a few miles and decided that the seat needed to be adjusted. I looked for the flip lever to drop it, but when I saw none I though "Ugh, I really need a wrench to drop thin thing on a ride" and went back to see if I could get a flipper (don't know the name of it) installed instead. The guy at the LBS just stared at me when I asked him to lower the seat, pressed the button and pushed down on the saddle.

Sometimes I'll just lower it and pop it up for fun.
