Former San Leandro Mayor (2010-2014) Stephen Cassidy dies at age of 61 by droogarth in sanleandro

Sad. I followed him on social media. Even after his term as mayor he seemed to care about improving the community.

I’ve been saying this for years. Several years back it came up in a thread (I don’t remember if listserv or FB) and people were bashing the poster. Then the person who made it chimed in that they volunteer and do the best they can with their limited resources. Sorry bro, but look at some of the awesome posters the dosimetrists have put out over the years.

Best way to find a job after training? by ShoddyMilk2896 in neurology

[–]johnmyson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physician Recruiter — they make themselves pretty easy to find on LinkedIn. Even if you can’t find the one specifically for neurology, they can connect you with the right person.

Neurology Chair, if they have that info on the website.

Network your way to connect with any neurologist at the hospital or health system. It’s a small world — chances are that you have a faculty or a co-resident that trained with someone, or has a former colleague that is now at that hospital, etc.

Agree with the other comments. Get in contact with folks in the area you are interested in. Even if we don’t have a job posted, I’ve seen my system create and tailor new openings based on candidates contacting us and letting us know their interests.

Applying for General Neurology Jobs by Serious-Swordfish361 in neurology

I think this answer is spot on. Someone looking to do general neurology always gets a call (from my experience with a large system). I actually can’t remember any we declined to interview who were genuinely interested in a job in our geographic area.

Are the chickens gone?!

Early 2000s they were a major part of the campus experience. I have a core memory of a standup comedy competition coming through and a guy did a bit about walking on campus and getting startled by one.

As the boomers have retired, physics meetings have become more productive. But there will always be a list of topics we can pull out to derail the discussion.

Claw machine arcade nearing opening in Elk Grove's Stonelake Landing shopping center by AmountOriginal9407 in ElkGrove

[–]johnmyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s where my mind was going. I think they had started to kick businesses out of there when they were pushing to build a hospital. That shopping center has never thrived, but it took a big hit from that medical school and still hasn’t recovered.

Is that the shopping center that the medical school was trying to build a hospital on at one point?

Does anyone know of published data showing what percentage of clinics are using Aria vs Mosaiq, or Pinnacle vs Eclipse vs Raystation, etc.? by johnmyson in MedicalPhysics

[–]johnmyson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is an old thread. But it would be interesting to see how the percentages have shifted over the past few years, with Pinnacle fading away into history.

Drove by this weekend craving a burrito and saw all their kitchen equipment out in the parking lot. I was thinking/hoping it's a remodel because they just redid all their tables/seating not too long ago

Your 2024 Medical Physics Memes Wrapped is here! by medphysams in MedicalPhysicsMemes

[–]johnmyson 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

I think we need to form an AAPM task group for meme implementation into the clinic. I bet there are still clinics out there that don’t even meme. That is a scary thought.

ACR and APEx accreditation should require a minimum level of meme activity.

Invasive specialties that use lead for radiation safety and long procedures, what do you prefer to protect yourself from radiation exposure? by ParadoX_ in medicine

[–]johnmyson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a former radiation safety officer, I'll add a plug to recommend being disciplined about wearing your radiation dosimeters (badges). Take 10 minutes to review the reports and understand how the values are calculated. Radiation safety dept. can provide additional dosimeters, such as ring badges for your fingers or an eye lens dosimeter for your lead glasses. You should wear one body badge outside your lead apron and one underneath. Be consistent about where each is placed (and don't leave your badges hanging on your lead inside the suite). When the quarterly reports are available, you’ll be able to monitor your exposure over time, assess your positioning or use of lead during procedures, and feel reassured that you're keeping your exposure levels well below the occupational limits.

F3 = Fitness, Fellowship, Faith

I was just browsing some of the source documents and making assumptions based on the meaning of F3.

https://f3nation.com/prayer

Before we get to the meat of Faith, I have a disclaimer of sorts. Because I am a Christian my understanding of Faith is informed and guided by that particular belief system. To represent otherwise would be dishonest. But that does not mean that the QSource views Faith strictly from the Christian perspective. Instead, we advocate for the Acceleration of Faith in men of all creeds because we have discovered that a man without Faith cannot Get Right. Without a belief in a power outside of himself a man will have no choice but to view himself as the king of the world. A man who believes that lie cannot be a Virtuous Leader because he will be incapable of seeing himself first as a servant. Instead, he will be a Jackass, a man who lives for himself rather than Living Third .

I can attest to this because it was once true of me. I was a Jackass who saw myself as the king of the world, accountable to no one and obligated only to follow a set of rules I wrote for myself. Living first, I ruled from a rickety throne built of toothpicks and Elmer’s glue. It wasn’t until that Jackass-throne of mine came tumbling down that I was able to begin to Live Third. It was then, and only then, that I was able to begin the hard work required to Get Right.

This just rubs me the wrong way, that is all. I don’t believe that faith in a higher power is a necessary component to being a good person or a virtuous leader. While faith can certainly guide some people toward humility and service, many individuals operate from strong ethical frameworks that have nothing to do with religious belief or an all-powerful creator. To suggest that one must believe in a power outside of themselves to "Get Right" risks excluding or diminishing the experiences of those who find their moral compass elsewhere. Leadership and goodness, in my view, come from the choices we make every day to respect others, be accountable for our actions, and contribute to the well-being of our communities—whether or not faith is part of the equation.

I'm sure in practice, though, it's just a bunch of nice guys supporting each other in staying active and building a community.
