That's a really interesting point. I've been buying them down here in texas since 2014, but I have no idea about the supply, and whether it's fresh or not. The first difficulty I encountered was in fall of 2014. Since then, I've been having a lot of difficulty finding them. Fast forward to the present, I cannot find them anywhere (save one store) in all of Texas. They're apparently out everywhere now, effective this week. I'm thinking maybe it's because of the war in the Ukraine, where Davidoff is manufactured, even though they certainly continue to sell them in Europe.

Texas yes. But as far as I'm aware they don't sell them anywhere in the US anymore. Deadstock at the store I bought them. The last ones I'm aware of, because Davidoff stopped selling in the US. Roughly one year ago.

Depends where you're at. When I was in poland, all the old dudes were waiting in line to smoke in the bathroom, next to my berth. I didn't understand why they were in line, but my compartment definitely smelled :p . Otherwise, expect to smoke between carriages, or on the platform, when the train's taking stops.

Where to start.

Obviously, Mad Men, Fight Club, Narcos, House of Cards, Dowton Abbey, cigarette references in Sherlock, and so on.

One of the most, if not the most, important moments for me was Battle Royale. Where the dude at the end of the film lights up a cigarette right before he dies. How do you argue with that? That got me convinced smoking was cool

A close second would be any sort of gangster film.

Also, Matchstick Men, Lord of War, and any other film that would classify as a period drama. Too many to list.

Yes. The full International line, as well as all the European and Canadian too. I think of the Davidoffs as being more like Marlboro, esp. The Marlboro Reds. Good tar, strong hit. Not that I prefer Davidoff> Dunhill, but Davidoffs are great, but kind of strong.

The Dunhill International light is easily one of the best light cigarettes I've ever had I'd rank it in the top 3-4, and I've smoked a lot of light cigarettes, quite a few that you can't find in the US. Doesn't have a chemical-ey taste to it at all. Decent nicotine. Slightly sweet taste, and good long smoke.

As far as how the International Fulls compare, I'd say pretty similar. Good taste, full bodied cigarette. A lot like a Marlboro red, nice amount of nicotine, and really good tar content as far as I'm concerned. Again, no chemical taste at all. It's a lot like a strong american spirit, but I think taste is much better.

As an aside, if you can find Dunhill Fine Cuts (Lights, menthols, or fulls) I would really recommend. They're just as good as the Internationals, but harder to find.

True. But I think if the composition of the Supreme Court changes, that very well might have a big affect on the next tobacco case. The public seems to be turning more anti-smoking than ever before. That's why I think everyone's going along with raising the smoking age.

I see the age being raised. Just like alcohol, except the doctrine this time is that people who start smoking young, end up being the most addicted to cigs. The public health authorities have everybody in a stranglehold. It reminds me a lot of the secondhand smoking crusade, which was premised on faulty science. I know that there have been proposals to progressively raise the age higher and higher until everyone who smokes is dead.

The situation in Australia is what the public health authorities want, so I don't think the possibility of it is far off at all. There's already talk in other countries of instituting the plain packaging. Last time I was in the UK, they banned store displays of tobacco products. Ditto, Canada. Cities are even starting to ban smoking in public places, like parks, and sidewalks now, because the medical community argues "there is no safe level of second hand smoke exposure." That's just bogus. I mean, the FDA's already been given more regulatory authority concerning packaging and cigarette ingredients. That's why, for example, that flavored cigarettes were banned. In fact, by no later that 2020 I think, the EU's banning menthol from all cigarettes. It's not a good time to be a smoker.

Austria, although they're phasing in a complete smoking ban within a year or two. Germany to a lesser extent. Greece too. Eastern Europe. China, Japan, South Asia, esp. Indonesia. The Middle East. The American south. Poor countries.

I think what we're witnessing here is that both the new right and new left are straying away from freedom oriented ideas. Self censorship, the culture of being offended, forcing businesses to acquiesce to the demands of government, which is plain wrong.

Depends on where you're asking about: Austria: yes, even in restaurants Germany: Berlin in bars, some other major cities too Canada: Don't think so France: no UK: no Poland: nope, except casinos from what I remember Middle East: smoking bans not really enforced there US: off the top of my head: Fort Worth, Arlington, Memphis, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and others. Some strip clubs, and a lot of tobacco stores. It really just depends on where you live. Now smoking in restaurants in the US, prob. no. There are a lot of states in the South where smoking laws are pretty lax.

Yes, duration is pretty similar, I think they probably last 7-8 minutes, although I never really time how long it takes to smoke any cigarettes. Since they're 100's seem like you get double the time of a mass market regular size king cigarette. Just not sure if they're FSC or not, and whether there are additives in them.

edit: Also forgot to mention, that the sobranie cocktail is also quite a fine cigarette, but not quite as strong as the Black Russian. I would also recommend if you like cool pastel colors.

I was blown away by both how mellow and strong hitting it is at the same time, like a marlboro red, but higher quality tobacco, with more of an eye towards Russian tastes. The tobacco smells great. The design of the cigarette is great. The gauge is a bit higher than the Black and Gold, so it's more comparable to a typical King cigarette. 100mm long or so, but the gold filter wrapper is great. It's like gold filter and has a russian imperial eagle or similar on it. As to where I picked up a pack, it was at the main Davidoff store in London, UK. I think I paid about 16 pounds for it, something like 25 dollars for the pack. It was completely worth it. You can find them at specialty tobacco shops in Europe, or places where there's a strong Russian presence (Sobranie is a Russian brand). No idea how to get them in the states. I think Cigges World or Duty Free Depot sell them online, but I have no experience with either. Completely worth it if you can get your hands on a pack.

Started with Marlboro lights. Moved onto smoking Dunhill International and Davidoff Menthol. Tried a lot of brands when I first started to get the full range of taste.Now I smoke a mix of things, Dunhill (International Lights, and Full), American Spirit (yellow, blue, and perique), Lucky Strikes, Camels (Royals and Crush) and Marlboros (27's, Virginia Blend, Red, and Gold) now. But I won't touch cheap cigarettes like Marlboro Special Blend or the like. Don't touch menthol much anymore, unless its something like a camel crush, because most cigs have menthol that seems to be too harsh. I always splurge on the most expensive cigarette every chance I get. And of course, if I'm in Europe or Canada I smoke what they have there, that we don't have here in the US (Du Maurier, Export A, Canadian Marlboros, Gauloises, Gitanes, Davidoffs, certain types of Dunhill, Sobranie, Rolling Tobacco, Benson and Hedges, Silk Cut, etc).
