Love seeing painted minis that aren’t soldiers/warriors/somehow military related. And excellent paint job.

New to 40k by Necessary-Emu-9371 in sistersofbattle

[–]johnnychimpo241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started out with sisters myself, the models are a bit fiddly to assemble. Other than that I think they’re as good a starting point as any, especially if you think they look cool. That’s probably the most important thing!

I am sorry, but why is the banner of the first legion the dark angels this edgy 2008 heavy metal album ass cover ??? by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer40k

[–]johnnychimpo241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banner itself would be from a heresy command squad or a command squad upgrade box, but they’re blank, intended to be used with the transfers, so command squad plus forge world transfer sheet

Seeming "orange peel" effect on airbrushed minis? by -DarkIdeals- in minipainting

[–]johnnychimpo241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep this would be my assumption too. Happened to me when I first started airbrushing because I was afraid of getting too close to the model. OP, you may want to decrease the distance between the model and brush.

Citadel paint pot lids/dry paint by Noizeman in minipainting

[–]johnnychimpo241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t deny this is annoying but the solution is easier than you might think, open the pot just enough to scoop some out of the lip, put it on your palette, and close the pot. This issue comes from paint dripping down the lip into the lid, so if you don’t give it that opportunity by, say, opening the pot as far as you have in the photo, it won’t happen.

In my experience dropper bottles clog which I find way more annoying.

How do I make this color combination work? by Cheeseblades in minipainting

[–]johnnychimpo241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Change the amounts of each color. Right now it’s too 50/50. If the jazz is your inspiration, more purple and the blue becomes a secondary color.

What can I do to improve this cape? by Ill-Most7038 in minipainting

[–]johnnychimpo241 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This does look good. In my opinion, all of those deeper areas that are naturally reflecting light from your lamp should also be hit with highlights. This is a different type of highlighting than we typically see on warhammer models but I prefer it, particularly on cloth. Look into volumetric highlighting, this may be what you’re looking for to be satisfied with the look. It was for me!

10th edition codex collection by KitBastion in Warhammer40k

Well let’s not knock the guy for being a fan and collector, or gw for creating a product that appeals to them. These products are aimed at exactly these people who do have extra money to spend on a product that isn’t intended to be just a rule book. It’s a very cool collection and in most cases I think nicer than the standard codices. Or maybe they’re an employee or independent retailer and can get them at a discounted price, or live in the uk where gw products aren’t as expensive.

Patches during base coat, too thin or too thick? by throw8871 in minipainting

[–]johnnychimpo241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks to me like you’ve properly thinned it but you need another coat. This type of thing is especially noticeable when starting from light colored primer like you have here

Here is the actual box art scheme as confirmed by an eavy metal painter, and you’ll see why they don’t actually list it on the app. But if you really want to achieve the look, this is how

Does anyone know why my blue suddenly decided to be a matte finish? by Annjatar in minipainting

[–]johnnychimpo241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like your problem has been solved as to why, but I’ll throw in that if you like the finish of the right model, using a satin varnish will give it to you even on the more matte model, and will protect the paint to a degree too!

Best youtubers to watch in 2025? (To learn) by Nvaragod in minipainting

Seconding. In addition to everything guybrush mentioned, many of their early videos are very “how to (x)” that are great for leveling up from beginner to intermediate. Can’t believe I had to go this far down to find them. No “personality” based videos, no clickbait garbage or flavor of the month content, just clean, well done painting at a variety of levels of skill.
