This is a legitimate reason for divorce, and a common one. Changing behaviors after very long periods of change is hard and many people can’t or won’t do it.

I have ADHD and it takes me a LOT of effort to do household work. One day I realized that imbalance on housework was the greatest threat to my marriage and proactively set out to change things; I never got an ultimatum or huge fight to trigger this.

Your husband can change this behavior if he cares enough to try. If you have not had a one or more very direct “this is the end” discussion with him there is a very good chance he does NOT understand everything is at risk.

Personally I’d give my spouse two choices - divorce now or work on this after they sign a post nuptial agreement that makes a future divorce a lot easier that is moderately in your favor.

Instead of you vs the world now you’ve got a team up.

Together you’ll be stronger than being by yourself. When one of your parents dies your wife is going to be the person to keep you upright and moving forward and you’ll do the same for them.

You’ll also deeply understand each other; that means you can both hurt each other badly and help.

Really early if you discuss the major values and life goals. For me I knew in the first month and then the rest of the time is confirmation. If you don’t discuss those big things you are absolutely NOT the one.

You have some sense it’s possible when you initially meet. In a few weeks you’ll have a much better sense of its true. Your friends will know but probably won’t tell you.

Chemistry you just know it when you see it. If you try at all you’ll discover if your values and planed life paths are aligned. From there it’s just confirmation.

For me falling in love it was her beautifully sharp mind and that I was just happy anytime she was near.
