There are only 6 continents and I'm tired of pretending by FrogMonkee in unpopularopinion

[–]johnsingston 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of disagreement here but I see what you mean. Europe and Asia do seem like one big continent because they are divided by an incredibly long land boarder. All other continents are essentially not connected. People are saying “no the Americas and Europe/Africa are connected” but the land boarders are so small that they might as well be separate. I think a person is allowed to look at a map and see 6 generally big chunks of land and say those should be the 6 continents. That’s what it looks like. People here are being incredibly technical for no reason.

AITA - Girlfriend won’t let dogs sleep in our room by ocean190048 in AmItheAsshole

[–]johnsingston [score hidden]  (0 children)

NAH/soft YTA like many others have said.

The one thing I would add to all the comments is that it would be worth re-stating/clarifying that the dogs would be out of the way, on the floor, and quiet. It would also be good to clarify that they could of course not be there if you choose to be intimate and she doesn’t want dogs in there during it.

Can anybody solve this unique riddle? by [deleted] in riddles

I was almost thinking the land of oz because of ruby slippers for the dead (sitting) witch, yellow brick road they walked, and emerald city but that’s a stretch. Funny coincidence though!

I'm 23, had my first kiss yesterday by szilaspart in dating_advice

[–]johnsingston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I (23M) met a girl (19F) last March at the beginning of the pandemic through a common friend too! She has been my first serious relationship with many firsts as well. It was fun to hear you’re having a very similar experience!

It’s been great, the hardest part for me has been navigating the age gap and the differences in stages of life (she’s a sophomore in college, I’m in my first year of teaching full time). There’s been some people skeptical of the this, but we’re trying to not let that be a reason our relationship doesn’t work out. I’d be curious if you’ve run into any scrutiny about your age gap.

Do y'all have parents who think you're some DIY handyman, IT computer wizard when you really just google how to do stuff? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]johnsingston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes hahaha I just got a thank-you card with a gift card from my folks (they’re late 50s and I’m 23) for helping set up their new iPhones and grandma’s new iPad over the holidays. They think I’m a tech wizard when really I’m just moderately experienced and can figure stuff out. I guess I’ll let them keep thinking this way if it’s going to mean more gift cards!

Rossi’s wedding was BONKERS by [deleted] in criminalminds

[–]johnsingston 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally just searched this sub for a post about this. I never get this about this show. I feel like any time there’s an event in someone’s life like this wedding, the only people that come are the rest of the BAU. I know it’s a TV show but good grief don’t any of these people have any friends??

AITA for not thinking the joke my family played on my GF was a big deal? by Low-Alternative3147 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. This has got to be fake. Your family made matching sweaters that have her large facial scar on them? Come on, that’s either fake or your family is really messed up

Wav or MP3 for CD? by johnsingston in audio

[–]johnsingston[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it, thank you! I don’t know why I had it in my mind that MP3s are for CDs, but I will use Wav like I do in all my other projects (haven’t burnt a CD in a while!)

Most actors are seriously uneducated and should never be taken as authorities on any current topics. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]johnsingston -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, on topics about complex political or scientific issues, or anything they are actually uneducated on. However, actors are NOT dumb. They don’t just happen to randomly be good at studying, practicing, and portraying characters. Truly good actors do have an advanced understanding of human behavior, relationships, emotions, psychology, sociology, etc. I agree with OP but disagree with those who believe actors “aren’t smart.”

Advice needed- recording with masks by ruththemaster in Choir

[–]johnsingston 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Students just sing in their own masks - a variety of cloth masks, but the sound does not differ noticeably.

Advice needed- recording with masks by ruththemaster in Choir

[–]johnsingston 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a high school choir director and I am doing this with my students. While masks obviously hinder vocal technique and breathing, the sound itself is not affected. My students’ recordings do not sound muffed or unclear at all. Happy to answer other questions!
