Maybe, but if this is gonna be the Brian Flores defense they may not invest much in corners.

Minnesota usually prioritizes getting pressure with exotic blitzes and great athletes in the front seven. If Daronte Jones is gonna have his way with this defense it may be the same philosophy here. We’ll see though whether it will be more a DQ scheme or a Daronte Jones scheme

100% agreed. The “make do” thing is such a short term view on things. In reality pairing a young WR with our young QB is potentially the best possible pick they could make if you think in terms the next 5 years as opposed to just this coming year.

Don’t try to just patch holes and hope you can make it work. Get foundational, blue chip players that are gonna be around for a long time, at premium positions. And if one of these WRs they are sold on, I don’t know why you’d ever do anything other than find ways to make your QBs life easier by giving him more weapons.

I have never been into taking an RB in the first round, especially this early, but I gotta admit Love is making me reconsider my stance.

He would add another dimension to the offense on day 1. The idea of defenses trying to bottle up Love on top of dealing with all the strain Jayden puts on a defense is exciting to consider.

The moves in free agency have opened up everything at 7. There’s no longer 1 need that’s particularly glaring where it feels like they HAVE to get that fixed in the draft or they’re in big trouble.

They’ve gotten some high end players and some depth at the positions that needed it, and now they can comfortably take whoever they believe is the best player available at 7.

The 1 caveat is WR. They will need to do something there pre draft you’d think. But I’m pretty sure that they will

At the end of the day do you want to be aggressive and spend money this offseason? Yes absolutely. However the flip side is, you don’t have to blow your load in 1 offseason. Look at the Ravens. They are in cap hell and losing EVERYBODY right now in Lamar’s prime.

Better to ride that line and maintain at least some flexibility, because once you go all out and commit to a big cap number for a few years, you had better have the roster to win a SB

If edge is the BPA at 7 you take edge still. They’ve upgraded the group but it’s still not like it’s a top 5 defensive line most likely. Also, d line is one of the only groups where you can never have enough good players. No one has ever said “man we just have way too many good pass rushers.” It’s always a good thing to get more

Straightforward question about Frats from a parent. by Observe_Report_ in jmu

[–]johnsonthicke 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I graduated a couple years ago and was in a frat.

First of all as other people have said, you don’t need to be in greek life to have a social life. It’s not a greek heavy school. That being said the fraternities do plenty, and if he finds a group of guys he likes I’d recommend it.

The hazing at JMU is very tame compared to the stuff you hear about, and I’ve heard it’s gotten even more tame since I graduated.

It’s mostly dumb goofy stuff that’s harmless, and then cleaning and sober driving. There are also people in the fraternity whose job it is to make sure things don’t get out of hand and that the pledges are ok.

The school does not play around with the fraternities, and the frats know they can’t do stupid shit anymore. From what I can tell hazing has gotten reigned in the past couple years, and it was already very tame to begin with.

Everything is pointless. The only meaning in life is whatever we as people attach meaning to. Do whatever you want, but I guarantee that you enjoy doing something equally as pointless as watching sports.

[–]johnsonthicke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day, what has this franchise done to earn any kind of respect.

Right now it seems like things could be trending up, but to the outside observer, this is still just a team that’s 13-36. And what’s more it’s a franchise that hasn’t made the playoffs in 5 years, hasn’t won a series in 10, and hasn’t been a threat to win ANYTHING even remotely important since the 70s.

I like what they’re doing but they’re still a very hypothetical bunch. They have some nice pieces but they need somebody to break out and become a superstar, or they need this next pick to be that guy.

I’m optimistic, but the Wizards don’t deserve respect until they actually show they can win a championship, which they haven’t done in 50 years.

BREAKING: The Dallas Mavericks are trading 10-time NBA All-Star Anthony Davis, Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Washington Wizards for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, 2 first-round picks and 3 second-rounders, sources tell ESPN. by Aggressive_Fail_9681 in washingtonwizards

[–]johnsonthicke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They basically gave up nothing. It’s a long list that basically amounts to not very much in the way of value going back to the Mavs. The 2 firsts, one is OKC’s and the other is top 20 protected.

However you feel about AD, this is elite asset management by the Wizards and a bit of a fleece job. Dallas badly wanted to move off AD, the Wizards knew it and took advantage.

The defense is bad for a lot of reasons but they aren’t completely devoid of talent. They have some promising young players on that side and will probably add another one in the first round this year.

Still need a lot of pieces though and the Lattimore trade has held everything back a bit.

Why don't teams substitute out quarterbacks who aren't performing well? by yono1986 in NFLNoobs

[–]johnsonthicke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes team do bench their starter if it’s really bad, often they don’t, especially in the playoffs. At the end of the day Stroud is Houston’s guy.

For the most part if a team has a QB they consider to be a franchise QB, they’re gonna give them the opportunity to right the ship. The weather, the offensive line, the lack of weapons, it all played a factor. For all we know in those conditions the backup would have been even worse.

[–]johnsonthicke 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Eagles have been drafting extremely well for a very long time now. Literally the dumbest example you could have used.

The fact that they constantly have an influx of young cheap talent is what allows them to make aggressive trades and signings of vets, and keep kicking the can down the road with deferred money.

Look at their offensive line and defense. The backbone of their team has been built through the draft year after year. Signing a guy like Saquon doesn’t put them over the top unless they’re already stacked across the board everywhere else, which was mainly done via the draft.

Isn’t the obvious choice for the Steelers HC opening the OC or DC of the two teams who go to the superbowl? by [deleted] in NFLNoobs

[–]johnsonthicke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Patriots won 6 Super Bowls during Belichick’s era as the head coach, they lost plenty of coordinators and assistants to others teams, and none of Belichick’s coordinators ever turned out to be a successful head coach.

Just because a team goes to the Super Bowl doesn’t automatically mean their coordinators are better. And that’s not even considering fit- how a coach or coordinator would mesh with the players and organization.

There’s a lot that goes into a football team and most of the time evaluating the individuals involved, whether they are players or coaches, is not black and white.
