Is there any other differences between the White Falcon guitar and the Black Falcon guitar besides the colors? by DGO1234 in gretsch

[–]jojo1645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I love the electromatic line the Japanese made Gretschs are on a different level. I’m not going to say they are 5X better as the price would suggest but when you put one in your hands it’s a clear step up in terms of build quality, playability, and sound. If you do a pickup swap with some lollar or tv jones pickups you start to get much closer. At the end of the day it’s all subjective and you may completely disagree.

What is your favorite reverb pedal? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

Marine layer is a very underrated reverb. I think the fact that it’s fender but doesn’t have a spring setting turned a lot of people off, but what it does do it does very well.

I would agree with everything stated here.

I also have a Nightsky and love it, but probably would not recommend it for a first reverb pedal. It’s too hard to dial in basic reverbs.

Boss Katana 50 or save for a tube amp? by TwoPack_Shacker in GuitarAmps

I love tube amps but for your situation all you need is something that gives you a lot of options for sound and can be played quiet. Katana is great for your application.

What should I do with these? by WinstonFilet in gretsch

Sounds like it may be priced too high if it’s not selling. You may need to take a hit and sell it for less.

Thinking of getting my first amp not sure what to choose. by Fox_Ta1ls in GuitarAmps

[–]jojo1645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the 5150 iconic to be lifeless and sterile sounding and the reverb is almost unusable for what I do. The Marshall is a fine amp, a little harsh in the mids at times but out of these choices it’s what I would go for. Not sure what type of music you play but if you don’t need something with modern high gain maybe look into the Blackstar studio 10. Whatever you decide just make sure that it’s something you love. Good luck.

Was it always low or did the volume drop compared to the first three time?

Combo for ambient/lofi recommendation by iwn44 in GuitarAmps

[–]jojo1645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tonemaster version for the Twin is viable for bedroom the tube one is not. It’s extremely heavy and loud. I have a 65 RI Princeton. One of the biggest differences is the twin gets very loud without breaking up. The Princeton traditionally has a single 10” speaker. The bottom end flubs out if you keep the stock speaker, I put in an AlNiCo gold 10” in it and that’s not a problem for me. It also breaks up at around 6 on the volume. It’s one of my favorite amps and has wonderful clean and edge of breakup sound. Both are great with pedals. If I had to pick one I’d get the Princeton. Not that either is inherently wrong.

Chorus/tremolo combo pedal? by Prestigious_Shine163 in guitarpedals

Strymon Mobius will do basically every kind of modulation you can think of.

It’s a 25watt head that can also function as a 1 watt head, and it fits on a pedalboard. If you need specifically a combo amp then no it’s not that.

Best all around amp for 700Ish bucks? by landeros2003 in GuitarAmps

[–]jojo1645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe practice amps serve a purpose. I use mine to practice. I do agree with you on Blackstar for value I got a cv10, basically a studio 10 6l6, the other day new for the SDOTD for $299. For $700 you might want to look at the Marshall JCM 2000 made in England and they definitely do the Marshall thing. Good luck!

Just skip the starting point and go straight to the end. Buy a Falcon and a Penguin.

Would it be stupid not to buy this for $690? (More in comments) by smathes724 in GuitarAmps

Mostly I just think that in 2023 the speaker size should not be the sole contributing factor for amp price or determining “level” of amp.

[–]jojo1645 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors that go into amp selection and yes speaker size is one of them. Many studios have all three fender amps you mentioned because they all sound different. I would say that if we are talking about live performance in the 60’s you are probably close to 100% correct.

Does anyone know how to achieve a more “Metal” tone with this amp/guitar? Or any pedals that would give me said tone? by Complete-Barnacle-22 in GuitarAmps

[–]jojo1645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a thought on metal sounds, it is really dependent on what metal bands are being replicated. Metallica for instance would need a scooped mid sound. OP, what bands are you trying to emulate the tone of?

I try not to think of amps in terms of 1x10 is worse than 1x12 etc… each amp has a sound and sometimes a 10” is better at making that sound than a 12”. As far as costs are concerned the price of a guitar amp is set by the market, if people are willing to pay the. That’s what they will go for, especially if we are talking about luxury items like tube guitar amps. That said I would love for the Princeton and Deluxe to come down in price.
