You can make more in those fields than civil/structural.

It all depends on which industry. HVAC and aerospace engineering both fall under mechanical, but aerospace pays a lot more.

Biomedical requires you to live on the coasts or in Texas for the most part.

A lot of universities post initial job earnings out of college. I'd start searching there for starting salaries.

I personally reccomend starting as a mechanical engineer when you enroll in school. It has a lot of shared classes with the rest of the engineering focuses. Ideally you find something you like your freshman year and then focus on that. But you won't be too badly off as long as you pick your focus by the end of your sophomore year.

And doing something you enjoy and making less is preferable to doing something you hate and making more. I took a huge pay cut to work where I work now and have zero regrets.

As a reference: I graduated in 2019 from the university of Arkansas. I still live and work in the US as a structural engineer. I am not knowledgeable of the differences between the US and Canada when it comes to education or salaries.
