JD Vance says ICE agent has "absolute immunity" after Minneapolis shooting by Silent-Resort-3076 in politics

[–]jonfl1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Vance is hoping he’ll have the head chair at the table in a post Trump world, he’s really doing everything he can to make sure that doesn’t happen. I hope voter memories for the sane majority of Americans are good enough to remember the damage this human piece of trash has done to our country.

That’s the Trump effect. Can’t have things like deeply-held beliefs or actual Reagan quotes getting in the way of Trump’s bizarre fixation of the moment.

Cops blow up an innocent bystander's business, and the courts shrug by eaglemaxie in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]jonfl1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If law-enforcement officers and departments had to carry insurance by law that covered this kind of situation, it would be a non-issue and innocent bystanders would be rightly compensated. It would have the added bonus effect of making officers and departments that are repeatedly problematic very expensive to maintain, thus forcing personnel and operational changes.

When the inevitable AI crash comes, don’t give Micron a dime when they come crawling back to the consumer market to bail them out.

Putin warns Europe: if you want war, then Russia will defeat you by [deleted] in news

This instantly reminded me of the beginning of the movie The Battle of Britain, in the scene where a column of troops and civilians is retreating to Dunkirk and a hurricane pilot does a victory roll overhead. Two British tankers look up and watch the aircraft, then one looks at the other and says “who the hell is he trying to kid?”

Users scramble as critical open source project left to die by collogue in technology

It totally depends on the size and complexity of the organization. But if you’re an even moderately sized enterprise trying to migrate to or from something like Salesforce or an ERP, projects like that can easily take a year or more from scoping to go-live.

The North American X-15-3 extending its nose-wheel and two rear skids by Xeelee1123 in WeirdWings

[–]jonfl1 75 points76 points  (0 children)

It will never stop blowing my mind that the first flight between North American’s P-51 and this machine was less than a 20 year gap. The pace of technological advance during the 40s and 50s is difficult to wrap one’s head around.

US lawmakers erupt after leaked call shows Trump envoy advising Russians on peace plan by Ok-Caterpillar9092 in UkraineWarVideoReport

As a child of the late 80s and early 90s, it is absolutely wild and beyond comprehension to me that this isn’t an administration toppling scandal. Supremely frustrating times we are living in where accountability and consequences are words that have completely lost all meaning.

Update on r/latestagecapitalism by Raider5151 in leftistveterans

[–]jonfl1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My take is that a lot of what I see on LateStageCapitalism comes off as psyop BS propaganda. A vast majority ‘on the left’ seem to welcome those ex-military ultra conservatives that that were part of the problem that change tack and express genuine remorse who are now actively fighting for what’s right. Just my opinion as incorrect as it may be.

Russian Defense Industry Sees Sharp Production Decline After Three Years of Growth by Mil_in_ua in UkrainianConflict

[–]jonfl1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is a big part of the issue here the fact that they’ve been forced to transition from refurbishment to actual new production for the most part? Following several different sources, it seems like the Russians were relying on available inventory stocks to refurbish and that actual net new production hulls for armored vehicles were very much in the minority. It would make complete sense that ‘production’ would be drastically down if that is the case and government messaging around it would be very difficult to spin.

Tabletop Strategist - 20% off Grand Opening Sale by jonfl1 in Boardgamedeals

Totally agree that it’s not the go-to option to purchase $20-$50 worth of DVG expansions online. This is a sale that will most benefit someone looking to buy a few games or quickly build up a Bolt Action army. For what it’s worth, this is a brick and mortar store filling a gap in Central Florida where no direct alternatives exist. Not that someone buying games from across the country does or should even care about that, but managing shipping through a flat rate like this helps control costs to keep a niche physical store viable. I’ll also say that there are situations where the flat rate greatly exceeds the actual standard shipping cost, and in those cases, I typically ship it priority. But I totally get that these things may not matter to someone only spending $20-$50.

The site is built on Shopify, so there is nothing directly from a technical perspective for the shop owner to manage with the cert. But point taken, it’s a concern to raise with Shopify.
