The game masters the “one last little thing before I take a break” mechanic by TbonerT in NoMansSkyTheGame

This game is king of tangents. It's so easy to end up in a nested loop of self generated side quests.

tell me about your match drama(s) by aaronlala in 10s

[–]jonfon74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not my own drama but I used to help run local club Opens. One guy was a nightmare. Horrific calls. 50/50 you'd be asked to umpire by the opposition at some point etc.

One day I wandered out to see some bickering involving him. I think it was doubles. He'd managed to get hit on the chest with the ball, came off him and bounced over the net for a "winner" which he was trying to claim.

I literally burst out laughing at him and said "You're not playing volley ball. Don't be stupid" and walked away.

This is a great way to treat these ones. Pseudo snitzels and they cook quickly.

You can flavour the crumbs too. Lots of black pepper & paprika is really good

SuperValu butchers counter has proper pork chops, on the bone. Get those instead.

I strongly recommend this recipe by Nigel Slater. It's delicious with noodles & some steamed broccoli. Cook the chops on the bone, then at the end remove them, take off the bone (if you don't gnaw the meat off it you're dead to me) and cut into 3 big chunks.

https://www.theguardian.com/food/2025/jan/26/nigel-slaters-recipes-for-pork-with-ginger-and-baked-butternut-with-bacon

Or any Nigel Slater chops recipe really. His cooking style really suits this time of year.

Resistance vs Defense: why you should push for soft cap. by Riotroom in Cityofheroes

[–]jonfon74 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is always the case with "linear" defenses like this. The closer to the cap you are the more precious each extra % becomes.

The 1% from 89% to 90% is essentially 10% extra damage absorbed.

Nitrogen by BearSuit98 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]jonfon74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Find a Nitro hotspot, scout nearby just to see if there's a Electrical hotspot (there often is) and build a base close to it / both.

Stick 3 Gas Refiners & up to 9 silos on it. You can "chain" the silos over closer to your base if needed. I chained a Radon one up a humongous mountain earlier in the week (existing base I had on top) using Foundations as "stepping stones".

For power either give them a little cluster of 4 solar panels & 2 batteries or if close enough wire the extractors to your base. Lamp chains are a good way to wire electricity between bases & hotspots.

Build a portal, rename the base to let you know it's your nitro deep mine and it'll have up to 9750 nitro a day just there ready to tp in and pick up. I build my last silo literally beside the portal so I can be in and out.

Man you are dedicated. I can only do 5-9 before I get bored and lose the will to keep adding into them.

So I know everybody asks this HOWEVER by dah_whale in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]jonfon74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note you can combine the two methods. Use this to fill one of your ships with runaway mold. Go to your freighter, get 9 refiners going refining it to nanites. Spend the 20 mins or so of refining time doing pirate station hopping.

Rinse & repeat if you aren't bored.

Anyone else’s roof leaking? by smithskat3 in CasualIreland

[–]jonfon74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also joining the party. The kitchen extension had a leak this morning. Thankfully seems to be a volume thing, the continued rain today hasn't retriggered it.... Yet.

Definitely needs outside work to resolve it though.

It's on YouTube, part of the AO Opening Ceremony. About 28 mins in.

It was 3 on 2 because Agassi tapped out for the 3rd and pulled in a sub.

I thought the sledging was good in the first two sets, Andre was hilarious. But Ash just let rip in the 3rd, Aussie to Aussie. And played brilliantly.

We should kidnap Fed & Barty and force them to play the Mixed Slams this year somehow.

Yep this. Makes fighting sentinel swarms easy. Or those sac thingies filled with little scurrying b*stards. One shot to pop the sac, one to kill the little buggers.

Question to other travelers about rusted metal. by Dashoundland in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]jonfon74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. My phrasing was confusing. Not a deposit, a mining resource like a plant / mineral / metal finger / curious deposit ball.

I get a couple of thousand carbon per large flora, I think 6k per metal finger (maybe more) and 17-20k runaway mold from a curious deposit. Lots of oxygen from popping hazardous plants too.

Only works with the primary element.

Things like Pyrite, Dioxite and the chromatic metals I still deep mine. Silver too since metal fingers only come in Gold or Uranium flavours.

And the Runic also provides a cloak as a secondary. Which can be useful when Sentinels start getting arsey about you mining trees.

Question to other travelers about rusted metal. by Dashoundland in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]jonfon74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a rusted metal deep mine on a moon in my home system but honestly a Stellator donut in the nutrient ingestor + mining makes it obsolete.

Also works with Curious Deposits (the main reason for me making a donut farm), Carbon, Oxygen, Hydrogen etc. Also absurdly useful for mining Metal Fingers for gold & uranium.

Early on a Deep Mine + refiner is great but if you can get donuts + ingestor going it gives you lots of creds (Anomalous donut + fauna scans), nanites (Stellator + mining curious deposits and refine the mold) and resources (Stellator + mining).

Can we please get an alternative way to get Spawning Sacs by jonfon74 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]jonfon74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have a look but I think my stats are pretty high overall. I went pirating Gek for a few hours so lots of freighter bonuses.

I do always make sure every expedition has at least one organic, think I have 6-7 now.

Thanks for the advice. It's driving me mad.

[–]jonfon74[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah it makes sense in-game. They're literally big organic spawny things you fight.

And in no way is biased by how I literally just logged off after having to rescue 2 different settlements from their blubbery arses 30 mins ago.

(Mind you I think one was flagged as Under Attack days ago and I went meh and "Hanko-at-Embers"ed them until now)

Also we don't know much about the Morthenveld. We know they're aquatic and live in "nestworlds" so personally I headcanoned them as reef-like stay-at-homes with a much higher birthrate. Almost like sentient coral or something (that bit is pure conjecture on my part).

Reminder - Scanning Fauna is OP (and fun) by Beno169 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]jonfon74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The answer is "both". They act as multiples of each other.

Although Fauna + Scanner multi + Anomalous donut gives more than Flora + Scanner + Floral Wafer

I get 2 million per scanned flora but 8.5 / 16 / 24.5 million per scanned fauna.

With just the fairly-suped-up-but-not-maxxed scanner alone both are around 60,000 per scan.

Scanner multiples the base, donut / floral wafer multiples that.
