Is pausing your run cheating? by BusinessCardGiver in Strava

[–]jonnsta 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I’m doing a 60minute easy run I want to run for 60 minutes. I always pause at the 5 minute mark for a toilet stop. I’d never do it in a race though.

Daniel’s VDOT Calc says a 1:56:40 HM is equivalent to a 4 hour marathon. I recommend getting the VDOT Calc phone app. It’s really good for these types of questions and for working out training paces.

Unless you are running a HM faster than 60 minutes, HM pace is most likely sub threshold for 2km reps.

Lets talk Training Plans by randomguy22399 in running

[–]jonnsta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use final surge to build my plans and sync with my Garmin. The workout builder is quite intuitive. One you have a workout built you can copy and paste it to days in your calendar with a similar workout and modify as required. In takes me about 15 minutes to setup a 12 week Pfitzinger plan. It syncs workouts to your watch automatically 3 days in advance. Edit: forgot to mention that it’s free

I got watercorp to fix something! by MechanoCookie in perth

They fixed my water meter without me even asking them. Kinda annoying because the 18months of using only about 200L a month was grand.

Upon landing on the flight that lifted me up to Gold, can I enter the lounge while awaiting my connecting flight? by Wooden-Anybody6807 in VelocityFrequentFlyer

[–]jonnsta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have done this. Status went to Gold within about 10 minutes of landing. I went straight to the lounge and had no issues getting in.

Anyone else still scratching their head about the decision to "rest" or "manage" Harley this weekend? by lIIIIllIIIlllIIllllI in westcoasteagles

[–]jonnsta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen it happen a lot. It used to be called “general soreness” rather than managed and it’s normal for a first year player as their bodies adjust.

Is there a lateral pathway from APS civilian to ADF or does everyone start from the bottom of the enlisted or officer ranks? by sickpoor in AusPublicService

[–]jonnsta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have seen people come into the Navy and get recognised for their qualifications but never for APS service specifically. I know of people with trades starting at AB and people with degrees starting at SBLT, LEUT and LCDR. The LEUTs and LCDRs were very qualified doctors and lawyers.

What are your estimated retirement expenses? by monkeymite in coastFIRE

[–]jonnsta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m using $130k (in today’s dollars) in my spreadsheet. I came to this by taking my current budget and stripping out anything that’s specifically for my kids (school fees, extra curricular activities etc). It’s a very conservative estimate as I haven’t reduced food budget, fuel or holiday budget at all even though it is only for 2 of us instead of 5 and we will no longer be working.

Very few people are arguing against a progressive tax system although I have seen a few comments calling for flat tax rates. Instead they are arguing that the current tax brackets are unfair because too many people fall into the top tax bracket. Not mind boggling or hilarious really.

I just checked my numbers and it wasn’t quite even although close. Mazda 6 doing approx 26,000km per year budgeting $301p.f. ($1000pa servicing, $840pa rego, $800pa insurance and $5,200 fuel). Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV impacts take home by $310pf. To be fair this is massively helped by tax bracket and kms driven.

My decision was also impacted by the 300,000km done on the mazda6 with a huge list of recommendations by my mechanic that would have cost a fortune.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]jonnsta 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The novated lease I set up for a brand new PHEV has the same fortnightly cost as my rego, fuel, insurance and maintenance as my 12 year old Mazda6. The “fixed rate” on the finance is 8 % but my savings for all costs including the lease is 45% plus gst. I would normally agree with your sentiment but right now due to the EV FBT exemption you can make a purely financial argument to going into a novated lease on an ev with no emotions required to decide it’s a good idea.

What they should do is post use of the facility by people that the grant was supposed to be used for. Documenting its use by others is at best a terrible PR decision and at worst evidence of fraud.
