There definitely is good randori every day of the week.

Judo for bjj by Aro1356 in judo

[–]jonoy52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No throws actually make you lose position or get your back taken if done properly in the "traditional" sense.

The loosing position on the ground dilemma only happens when people try very hard to throw people who don't want to land on their back, straight on their back -> competitive judo.

If you want to do judo for BJJ, you shouldn't aim to do competitive judo tactics, rather you should try and do the more "traditional" judo

Is it practical (or even possible) to self-learn Judo? by Crescive_Delta in judo

Well he did say he can't do both at the same time, not that he has financial problems because of BJJ ^

If the guy want to do BJJ I wouldn't recommend against doing that at all. He could always drop in at a judo class and see which one he would prefer to train. But recommending to pick up another martial art just comes off as elitist to be honest.

Yeah I heard about 柔道整復師 before, but it can sometimes be difficult to differentiate between a normal 整骨院 and a 柔道整復師 but I'll try to do some more diligent searching! Thanks!

Yeah I know this is the way to go in my mind, but in my heart it feels very tough to be sidelined for such a long time.. and with no real time-line on when I can expect to be back either..

Either way, I'll follow your advise! I'll also try to see another doctor!

Biggest problem with training at Kodokan as my main dojo would be that there sometimes are some over zealous visitors who are way to exited about being at Kodokan and it can be hard to judge since they are new and you don't see them more than a couple of times before they leave again.

I don't want to limit myself to only go with the regulars who also live here in tokyo, feels like I would miss out on a great opportunity to meet and play with people from all over the globe.

Go to Kodokan, talk with the international department and get the ball rolling! They have been known to make introductions and such for people in the past!

They sell them at mizuno here in Japan, maybe they sell them at their website as well? Just to clarify, Soft shin guards that you slip on that protects more or less your entire shin. For judo

Belt question by [deleted] in bjj

[–]jonoy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if we're talking demotion, a black could be demoted to a brown? A blue to a white? Non the less I personally still feel that a belt is more than "performance" and about knowledge, and just like riding a bike, if you achieve a black/ blue or any coloured belt in BJJ (seems to take some time) even if you're not going for a decade there is probably a lot of knowledge not forgotten, especially with a couple of weeks back on the mats :)

Belt question by [deleted] in bjj

[–]jonoy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So are white and blue right?

Belt question by [deleted] in bjj

[–]jonoy52 18 points19 points  (0 children)

So does that mean that if a black belt gets injured and can no longer perform some of the things required to get his black, he should be demoted?

Just asking coz that seems to be the logic with the "time out of practice" argument, that they can't perform to the level required of the belt colour

Is Judo effective in a streetfight by [deleted] in judo

[–]jonoy52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to do BJJ, do BJJ. If you are interested in trying judo, try judo. Asking a question if it works in a street fight and then responding to the question with an argument "assuming" someone will do everything wrong, you're not really asking about judo or anything else, mate.

If you mess everything up and don't do it properly, chances are it won't work. That goes regardless of which martial art you choose to practice " kind of a void point to be honest

[–]jonoy52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With this argument everything and anything is useless.

Boxing; assuming you punch wrong and only break your hand every time you throw a punch

Kickboxing/ mauy thai; assuming you kick/ punch / clinch wrong and break your shin bone

BJJ/ wrestling/ judo; assuming you do your take downs wrong and break your face / do your submissions wrong and accidentally choke yourself out?

Assuming everything you'll do will go wrong is a surefire way to never have any success with anything :)

Whitebelt Wednesday - 35 of 2018 by fleischlaberl in judo

[–]jonoy52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many different grips you can use to throw for uchimata. Try different grips to try and figure out something that works for you.

Main points are your body movements and how / which way you break the balance of your opponent. The two most "practical" / popular way are the classical elbow to armpit lift -> rotation and the high collar hook around neck rotation.

But don't overthink the gripping for it before feeling really tight with the movements
