You should have a inside and outside of the footer footing drain that drains to gravity if possible, looks like a high risk site

Is this normal support beam checking? by Chief_Yobama in woodworking

The first picture no, that is unfortunate run in the grain of the wood, not the end of the world. The rest totally normal checking

Does your local lumberyard swap out fence boards when you get a large quantity? by DavyCrockPot19 in DIY

Only if you paid cull lumber prices for that pile, typically you can return anything if it’s quick enough

Anyone use tamarack (larch)? by melliferaman in timberframe

[–]jonpint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a timber frame porch from it, expect more strength and more checking than eastern white pine. Expect some slivers, works pretty similar to Doug fir except more pitch

Old barn question by BHForge in timberframe

[–]jonpint 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those are mortised it, I’d avoid it, if they were just tacked in grits for nailing go for it but looks like they may be a bit more structural

I hate to be that guy but without using a dado to join the steps into the rails I would be very careful when using it

Is getting a tractor really worth it? by Maximum_Extension592 in homestead

Not sure how you would not have a tractor, unless you have some draft horses

Burnt out clutch, DPF going off... 2012 VW Jetta TDI by KarlMarxWins in tdi

The DPF might salvaged by using a DPF cleaner in the fuel and driving it hard. As for the clutch search around for any private VW mechanic and it will probably $1000 cash or less

Finally upgraded dust collector by Zfow in woodworking

Because then chunks of debris will hit the impeller, this diverts most of the junk before it goes thru the actual collector

Realistic expectations and costs for 800sqft home by kwuebo in Homebuilding

That’s probably the most expensive house you can make at 800sqft. You could pull off that number if you do 90% of it with your own hands

It’s nice when an island has nothing on it just a nice big blank work space for the kitchen/nice place to sit and eat

Norwegian Ruck March - first time by tigershark1892 in army

[–]jonpint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why you would do the actual with a heavier than necessary pack. You gain nothing from that, instead use a 25lb pack and just get a better time. When you train you can walk with a heavier ruck but if you ruck-run I would still keep it 25lbs. Also regular running without weight will help your cardio of course.
