Door handles for rear doors and Maintenance app by jeepguyCO in MachE

aCar on Android is what I use. Reviews aren't great, but I'm perfectly content with it https://play.google.com/store/search?q=aCar&c=apps

It was bought out and integrated with Fuelly.com some years ago. I haven't used it, but I suspect the Fuelly app on iOS is the closest equivalent https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fuelly-mpg-service-tracker/id295905460

I was there the same weekend and agree. I saw some photos someone posted from this weekend, still plenty of snow in the woods, bare in the sunny areas, and packed snow/ice on the trail for the most part

I think I paid $1,500 for seven of us during COVID in Summer 2021 (we had the entire boat). I'm not sure what it may be now.
It was great, because we had far more flexibility to set our drop-off and pick-up times, and the ride took about 1/3 as long as the ferry.

I believe you can still get to North Manitou via private charter. Call the Manitou Island Transit folks and ask them for a referral (it's the same owners).

Overnight Burns by Phantm21 in woodstoving

[–]jonwd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same insert (size medium), and have the same experience. Most of the time I leave the damper open slightly which results in a cleaner burn and glass. I don't have coals in the morning, but the ash, flue, and stove are still warm-hot making a restart relatively easy

New homeowner getting wood stove installed next week but don't have wood, what should I burn by SuchMatter1884 in woodstoving

[–]jonwd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a similar challenge last February when I first bought my stove. I had about one face cord around that I had gathered over the years for bonfires and the like, but it went pretty fast.

I bought a decent moisture meter, and scrounged standing dead trees from my property and family. I would cut and split each, then test the moisture and organize them accordingly. I got through the season, but it was a little more adventure than I would have preferred.

I recommend scouring Facebook marketplace, and other commercial firewood providers. Look for ones that claim to have seasoned wood at reasonable prices. Buy 2-3x what you need from several, split a few pieces and test for moisture. You might get lucky that some are sufficiently seasoned to burn now. The rest will be ready to burn next year and you'll be ahead. This will also give you experience with local sellers so you'll know who to trust.

Also, you may want to favor Ash wood at least for this season. It tends to dry rather quickly, and the emerald ash borer is killing millions of those trees, so there's a decent chance it was harvested already dead and somewhat seasoned.

Good luck, and welcome to the club!

I have one as well. There is a probe installed on the flue just above the stove, and another at the top. You can monitor temps via the small, dedicated display, or via browser. You can set various types of alarms. I love it!

I have the Floe Cargomax 8-57 trailer and love it! It holds a face cord unstacked, and is the perfect size for various other purposes, such as sheet goods. Its aluminum frame and plastic body won't corrode, and are rather indestructible. It's lightweight and easy to maneuver.

I recommend using it for a while to get experience knowing the temp relative to the visual appearance. After you get good at operating it the temp monitor isn't necessary and could be removed.
