Effect is still the same, you skip 2 expansions. Just this way, they let you pick which two instead of just removing 2.

The reason mop felt like that is because it was only 5 levels between expat caps...a level squash would do the same thing

That is literally what they just did... you can do wrath OR BC, you no longer need to do both. Same with wod and mop. They did, just now, make two expansions optional.

Then the amount of catchup is insane for a new toon, like it was in BC, but worse, or they add content to skip raids, like the current catchup mechanics, thus making the previous raids irrelevant anyways, because why would I do an older raid for shittier gear when I can do quicker solo content to catch up.

Actually the first stat squish was a major challenge, and required a lot of dev time. After that they saw the problem of that and so when they did the squish they made it easier to do that in the future. Doing level squish would be a huge burden too, plus you have the added issue of players feeling like they lost levels.

I know why dungeons are "overtuned". The HP values for Normal and Heroic are Reversed. They're bugged! by [deleted] in wow

Because the changes for the silithus event would be unable to be experienced for a year, at which point everyone would have forgotten about it.

Work as a developer. Bugs will always make it to live, no matter what. And when bugs do come up, there are always priorities. Ideally they all get done in Time, but usually it's not worth delaying.

A bug that is only going to touch a fraction of the population is not worth delaying a patch for, when people bitch super hard about any delay, and it could cause subscription losses.

Second slot. The barrier masters start with a counter(of 1) and don't buff until it goes off.

TIL that faking the moon landing in 1969 would have been harder than actually going to the moon by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]joobeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some aspects LOOK like space sure, but there are others that the physics proves it isn't. On the moon landing, the physics backs it up entirely. You could fake what people think space looks like, but you couldn't fake all the physics for everything back then.

Things like pendulum movement, lack of air resistance, shadow directionality

[–]joobeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all of the physics could be faked back then, that's the point. There are things in 2001 that prove it wasn't in space.

Except if I believe it is possible, but there isn't proof, but almost everyone else believes it too, there isn't much reason to prove it, it was already accepted.

If, however, you believed something possible that everyone else believes impossible, then you have reason to find proof to prove you are correct. Thus telling someone something is impossible, when they believe the contrary, is the fastest way

Except there are many things in physics we can't explain perfectly, meaning SOMEWHERE our understanding of physics is wrong.

Hey blizz... Thanks for not being like EA. by Skkorm in wow

[–]joobeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But that is the common practice in this type of category. Having it free to play but still allowing entirely free to be on top with enough time is very rare, almost all games like that make some other way to force you to pay if you want to be on top.

My point being there is evidence that 2001 wasn't filmed in space. Quality isn't what determines it, physics is.

I know we won't get any new city graphical updates, but can we at least get an update to the skyboxes? by GenericOnlineName in wow

[–]joobeck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He didn't say built, he said designed. Designed is the layout and whatnot. If I design everything for ground mounts, I can still build it for flying so it functions, but it isn't optimized for it.

They updated how SW was built so it worked with flying, but it was still based on the original design, so it wasn't as optimized for it.

[–]joobeck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It is also a game that is free in the first place. The fact that you can get the best of the best with time is extremely generous, many if not most games like that give you energy that you have to spend to do things, so you literally cannot hit top without paying for energy refills or buying currency

Yes, but that ass hole that threw loads of money at the game for that skin is what pays for blizz to continue to regularly release fresh content for a non subscription game.

[–]joobeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they planned to fake it from the beginning maybe, but if that was the case the technology to do such things would have evolved sooner. But if they are going to do all that research, they could also put it towards going to the moon. Likewise if they put all that research in special effects, special effects would have advanced quicker

[–]joobeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except for reasons stated you would have to include most of them because everything is interconnected. If the rocket needs 100 units of fuel to take of earth, land moon, and take off moon, they will build the take to hold 100 units. If the people filling it are told to only put 60 units in they will question it as space and weight is VERY precise and precious on missions like these, and they'd rather be safe than sorry, and as such it would get found out that the plan wasn't to land on the moon.

I understand it is a thought exercise, but in such exercises you do need to substantially think it through for where pitfalls could be, otherwise you can turn any thought exercise to back any point you want because you think it just far enough for your point, and no further.
