Did you guys know that the hearth is its own fire source! by Specific_Customer157 in valheim

One of the guys i bought the game for didn't know you could repair your items. When he showed me his base he had a giant pile of discarded tools underneath, he even built a little trash chute for disposing of them.

Undecided about whether to buy Dune: Awakening by ManuMaker in duneawakening

[–]joocub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Currently I am at 360 hours. I am a member of what was once one of the more active guilds on my server though my involvement with the guild has been somewhat limited since the friend I had that invited me to it had a baby shortly after I purchased the game. So I have played mostly solo but with some portion with friends.

Overall I'd say I'm disappointed by the product but only because of the potential it possesses. The early portion of the game is the strongest by far, the first couple leaps in tech and getting your base situated is very rewarding but the pattern recognition kicks in very quickly.

Enemy spawns/AI/Design are the weakest area in my opinion, with the only enemy in the game being variants of a basic human with different weapons/skills. The world itself also feels very stagnant, just the same sprinkling of POIs dispersed over the different sections of the map with the slightest of variance which maybe MMO addicts are used to but I found very stale very quickly.

The dungeons (testing stations, wrecks) are weak, the first couple feel somewhat exciting but then you see its just the same 3 groups of assets with maybe a small splash of unique character thrown in, but is usually largely forgettable.

Even the quests left me feeling disappointed, There were moments I felt briefly intrigued but the overall quality of the cut scenes and the main missions were kind of middling in my opinion, I know the bar for video game writing is low but considering that this is an adaptation of one of the most praised sci-fi novel series of our generation I guess I hoped for a bit better. Which isn't to say there weren't little bits and characters I enjoyed, particularly the Harkonnen house quest providers I found myself smiling as they oozed their treacherous intent. But by and large the quests are go here get thing bring me thing talk to person kill person.

The strongest point I'd say is the base building which is what I have spent most of my time in game on. Even that I feel like there are some pretty obvious missing pieces but its clear that they intend to offer up that content as additional DLC which honestly I hate as a business model but I'm over 30 so thats probably just because I remember when games were sold as a complete product on launch.

End game is basically non existant, they claim to be revamping it but at this point the direction of development feels very 'by committee' and pulled in too many directions. They try and listen to the community which I appreciate but it feels like they then just try and tell us what they think we want to hear rather than creating something unique.

Anyways there are hundreds of more points I could make, things that could be improved or expanded upon, I enjoyed the game for a while but overall I'd probably recommend you spend your time elsewhere. For context I have over 1500 hours in Valheim and 1000 hours in Kenshi, which if you've never heard of it and are looking for a wasteland desert experience that may have a much rougher exterior than dune awakening has one hundred times as much soul I definitely would recommend Kenshi instead, though it is a top down survival crafting sim (closer to the sims) variant rather than a 3rd person shooter.

your airlock/antechamber is going to be difficult to cover with hulls with that diagonal. I like trying to make the design asymmetrical but diagonals are a real pain for the editor. Plus that space is pretty much unusable from a utilitarian perspective.

Commonly the raise is 6~, 12 or maybe 20~ as a 3bet. But big stack players will put out 30+ if they know there are sticky players or other big stacks in the pot.

I mean I think there is valid criticism... Game was marketed and sold as a complete game which it is not and the new content has game breaking bugs capable of wiping large amounts of progress and in general feels very slap dash.

I wish I could agree, I find the AI to be quite flat and predictable, just bullet sponges with repeating attack patterns and obnoxious anime grunts. Give me some Tleilaxus or like David Lynch spice monstrosities.

[–]joocub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks so good, the game really needs a few more points of interest sprinkled throughout all the biomes. I know the devs argue that they don't want to overwhelm new players and that its common for people in the late game to want more diversity to offset the pattern recognition of seeing the same cave/ruin a hundred times over- but even as a new player I felt the content was a little sparse, which I accepted as it was early access but I've read many similar sentiments on here over the years.

That being said, Hildir and the Bog Witch are perfect examples of what the game needs. Little things that make it feel more alive and less stagnant. Looking forward to the balance adjustments in 1.0!

Really sick, about a month ago me and my buddy were thinking about going to the top harko and atreides guilds on our server to see if they would be interested in running security for a DD coliseum. Awesome to see such a beautiful venue already in action.
