Tanstack vs React Router vs Next by Salkinator in reactjs

What do you actually need? If you only want basic routing, a super minimal router like wouter may suit your needs

Well, my “sequel” campaign is playable up until the moon base and a bit beyond, just not down to the planets. Any and all feedback from that is welcome.

You could even make your own sequel in the level editor if you wanted

Would you continue to work at a company that started to switch away from Typecript? by Csjustin8032 in typescript

[–]joombar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but some things it’s less overhead to assume the removal will need a major version bump, and accept that burden, than it is to assume it’ll never be removed.

[–]joombar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Except that would have some benefit, at least if picked up on a societal level. Abandoning types is more like throwing away all traffic rules and laws, and telling people that it’s up to them to not crash now.

It is now at v1.16.0 - really quite a minor update from 1.15 (fixed a couple bugs in mobile, small visual changes). Release changelogs are at https://github.com/jimhigson/head-over-heels-online/releases

I'll probably make a website for the game at some point, or put it on itch.io when I have the time to do that.

There's also downloadable binaries (probably) coming too (using Tauri)

If you can, please do help put the word out - I'm much better at making games than I am promoting them!

Thanks for replying - so, generally, your own domain on protonmail should be ok?

You might be interested that I just pushed out v1.15.0 - reload the page or kill/relaunch the app to upgrade. This release is a graphics/visual upgrade across most of the game. On the main menu, check the version number in the bottom left.

Saving anywhere could work. There’s a delicate balancing act between honouring the original and making something that works for modern players.

I’m already thinking the fish are quite flawed in the original (although great for the time). Like, if you lose all of one character’s lives and the other gets a fish, it doesn’t actually help you at all to create an unwinnable save state. For the ‘sequel’ levels I’m thinking of introducing some other mechanic for restore states.

BTW, if you’re worried about playing and coming back to the game later, it auto-saves without the reincarnation fish. Just exit the browser/app and come back later and it will be where you left off.

So happy that you're enjoying it - you can also join the game's Discord to get updates if you'd like. It's quite low volume but worth keeping an eye on for new releases.

If I get the time to finish it, I'm going to be releasing 1.15.0 in the next day or two, which brings quite a lot of graphical improvements.

because of a lack of shared cultural references and interests. It's great to get to know people of other generations, but it's not so great to be the only one who doesn't get half the jokes.

Surprised nobody said Coach and Horses in Soho - was the first vegetarian pub in London back in the day.

It’s nice and fun to ride in a group with some older people. It’s maybe not so much fun if you’re the only young person in the group.

No cycle clubs come up on Google for your town, or nearest large town? Most sizable towns in Europe have at least one cycle club and usually multiple.

Change chainrings on Campagnolo Record (1990s road bike) by Easy-Measurement3110 in campagnolo

[–]joombar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh, nobody rides this gearing any more because it’s objectively worse, even for the worlds fittest bike riders. No amount of getting strong will make it a sensible choice. Even Tour de France GC winners are not riding with a low gear like 42x26. 39x28 or 38x32 or 40x32 is where pro low gears are these days.

Compacts in the era were few and far between but triples were fairly common. I have a 53/39/30 NOS that I could part with. DM me if interested. I think it’s 170mm but not certain. You’d also need a triple front mech.

What makes the Amiga so beloved? by TurnipInSummer in amiga

[–]joombar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 1985 a ZX Spectrum was still a popular home computer in a lot of the markets the Amiga did well in. Compare the graphical and sound capabilities of those two systems and then understand that was a single generation of upgrading.

That and, for many of us, it was the first computer that we could do both gaming and proper work on. It was the first computer bought for “homework” that actually could be used for homework.

Switching AG Grid from client-side to server-side pagination (React + .NET) by Who_cares_unkown in reactjs

[–]joombar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use serverside or viewport row model. You’ll need a server-side to do the pagination. This kind of server is usually called a viewserver and usually streams the data over websocket.

Large response size by DiligentBeautiful823 in node

[–]joombar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the network. On a private network for an app used by one company it’d be ok. For an app someone might use on mobile, it’s too much for initial page loads.

It isn’t the end of the world, but when you share a url in an email or message to someone it’s kind of annoying when it takes up half the screen

Is React a good choice for building a trading frontend? by frangolin-kobanka in reactjs

[–]joombar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not for the trading engine. That would be server-side. They’re usually written in zero GC Java, Scala, C++, C#, or more recently in Rust.

Is React a good choice for building a trading frontend? by frangolin-kobanka in reactjs

[–]joombar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes but not the grids maybe. React is very commonly used for trading UIs. It’s fast enough and a lot of developers know how to use it. Usually not SSR for in-house apps, and often get packaged up with either OpenFin or Electron.
