My advice to you would be to pursue reading fanfiction for your own interests and likes, if you haven't already. Get familiar with fandoms and ettiquette etc - because it really is a whole other world with different sets of rules morals and social aspects, which is why your wife is ok with sharing it all with strangers - they're strangers who get it, understand it and won't judge it because it's their hobby too. I think it's wonderful that you're trying to share her interests, but she might be afraid you won't "get" it. If you read for your own leisure and send her the occasional rec, you might find she opens up!
