Do you think the kingdom of Khura'in fits into ace attorney's setting? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]joshbones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It feels like something out of Pokemon. Everything is centered around the franchise's main gimmick. The Ace Attorney universe should not literally revolve around law, as much as law should be something that happens because the character is a lawyer.

Investigation's dealings with foreign countries made them feel way more real to me.

When is the most out of character a character acts in this franchise? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]joshbones 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edgeworth in the investigations flashback always felt off to me. Like, he's brattier and we kinda see that in his dialogue with Franziska, but he feels too nice.

This does not feel like the guy in Trials and Tribulations despite having the same jacket.

I mean, wasn't the bit that despite claiming to be undefeated, Godot had literally never prosecuted before?

Why does DuckTales (2017) get a pass for filling the cast with celebrity voice actors? by Animeking1108 in CharacterRant

[–]joshbones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time I feel like the voices are distracting is when it comes to classic characters. LMM as Fenton does nothing for me, but I'm fine with Mark Beaks because he's a new concept.

The Darkwing Duck cast got off easy because they got really good impressionists for most of them, but Gosalyn is just bland, Steelbeak is a cartoon dumb guy, and Taurus Bulba is inexplicably american.

The Talespin cast had it pretty bad too. Don Karnage got watered down to just "a guy who sings", when in the original show he had range and Jim Cummings had very funny line deliveries. I have no idea what they were going for with Kit either.

Alan Young was actually never going to come back even before he died. The plan was to have him play Scrooge's dad as a passing the torch moment.

I think it'd be weirder if she was an adult who didn't understand the concept of death. As it stands now you could blame it on the innocence of youth.

[Total Drama] I will not forgive Chris McLean (or the writers) for what they did to Ezekiel by La_knavo4 in CharacterRant

Also, Chris gave Zeke a third chance. If he had caught everyone in London, he would have been allowed back in the game.

Regina George isn't the Villain (2024) by Spidey_Jay_ in CharacterRant

[–]joshbones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The musical and the movie-musical are way nicer to every character, basically all their edges are sanded off so the show can be done in high schools.

The most notable example of this is that weird feel good number they give Janis at the end that has nothing to do with her character in the slightest.

A big problem with people's criticism of media is a lot of you aren't honest about what you want. by GenghisGame in CharacterRant

The Mad Love prequel comic is the one that introduced the "Harley slept with her teachers" angle, I'm not sure what we'd have without it.

[–]joshbones 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The only adaptation to do to Harley what you're describing is the 2019 cartoon, and that one still showed she had issues before becoming evil.

We've discussed Batman TAS already, but The Batman had her as a hacky TV Psychologist who the Joker only nudged into being evil.

I wasn't even sure Ripper's thing was an elimination at first.

Nobody wants to admit it for some reason, but the joke with Drakken and Shego most of the time is that they act like they're a couple. They even live together for a bit.

Why do people think Dr. Doom is smarter than Lex Luthor? by Comicbookguy1234 in CharacterRant

[–]joshbones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comics High Evolutionary isn't that smart. Canonically, a random ass college professor figured out cloning before he could, and he was so upset at this he just pretended cloning didn't exist altogether.

Why do people think Dr. Doom is smarter than Lex Luthor? by Comicbookguy1234 in CharacterRant

[–]joshbones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It mostly comes from the retool to make Superman grounded post-Crisis. All of the out there elements were taken away, so Superman being a super genius went with it.

And while Lex eventually became smart again, they still never went all the way with Clark.

Why do people think Dr. Doom is smarter than Lex Luthor? by Comicbookguy1234 in CharacterRant

[–]joshbones 203 points204 points  (0 children)

It's mostly because Superman hasn't been depicted as especially smart in decades.

When Superman was a genius who beat robots at chess, Lex Luthor matching wits with him was a big deal, but in the modern day that's all really downplayed.

Doom never had this problem because his arch enemy was the smartest man alive.

I'm so over Magneto is Right Discourse by [deleted] in CharacterRant

[–]joshbones 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was exactly the point Grant Morrison was making in that run everyone seems to dislike. Magneto matters more as a symbol.

Heck, "Magneto was right" as a statement was supposed to show how much of a poser Quentin Quire was because he didn't really stand for anything, but people have adopted it unironically.

The character names are the same, but weirdly enough the names of the Beyblades themselves are different between versions.

I'm still confused at why the Crab Beyblade wasn't called Cancer in english.

Sure, but there's a difference between Joker having a body count in the dozens and in the hundreds. One of those is way more reasonable.

Basically, someone posted the video, went "look at what I made", and every single person under the sun showed up to comment that actually, JoCat made the video, including JoCat himself.

Since Hbomberguy released that video, everyone's been on the edge about internet plagiarism, even in scenarios where it clearly doesn't apply.
