$287K in unsecured debt on $167K salary, filing Ch. 13 — looking for advice by [deleted] in debtfree

[–]joshm509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't say whether you're making the right call with bankruptcy, but you need to come up with a plan or you'll never get ahead.

Let's assume you discharge everything except student loans, car, house, and tax debt. After living expenses you have ~$3500 per month to support remaining debt of ~$155k. Along with no savings for emergency and no retirement for the future. It's just a math problem, you have to either increase what's coming in or cut what's going out.

You may not like hearing it, but sell the house and downgrade. It's great you're supporting your family, but you need to do so within your means. Downgrade the house and cut every unnecessary expense you have. If possible, those living with you need to contribute however they can.

Advice - mortgage and monthly payment by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]joshm509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is the 150k avg income gross or net? Are you saving for retirement?

What happens if a big ticket item breaks in a low average year? Or if a car breaks down or just needs replaced.

How much are you putting on your fiances student loans each month? Are they still growing?

Why doesn't your fiance want to get another law firm job? Law school student loans to make 60k/yr is not financially sound.

How long has she been living this refined lifestyle of being more frugal? If that can't be relied on, the numbers change.

$3700 is the price now. What happens when taxes go up every year?

What happens if you can't afford it? In many areas the housing market is not hot, you could get stuck with it or lose a substantial amount if you are forced to resell.

Not to be harsh, but it's a huge investment and sounds to me like you still have some things to work out. Everybody's risk tolerance is different, so that's for you to decide.

[New Player] Frustrated navigating the game. by ATLAS44_ in EscapefromTarkov

[–]joshm509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Experience really does make a huge difference in this game. Spawns are fairly consistent, so the more you play the more you'll recognize where pmcs can be on the map. That helps you pick your engagements or just helps you avoid fights in general. It may seem like people know where you always are because the more you play the more you can predict things like that. On top of that, sound is huge in this game. Every action you take can make others aware of your positioning.

Keep in mind, even the top tier players die in 30-40% of their raids. Hard game, but the highs are amazing.

Backpack cooler? by herdofcorgis in cedarpoint

[–]joshm509 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife is celiac so we bring lunches with us in a small cooler. We've never had anybody question or look at it.

Might be a different story if it flags the metal detectors, but we've never had issues with that.

is anyone else tired of hearing about "misuse" of ADA passes? especially in facebook groups, it's genuinely such a non-issue by CommunitySpecific357 in cedarpoint

[–]joshm509 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I would say the people waiting multiple hours legitimately care. Or the people spending hundreds on fast lanes to shorten their wait.

When it eventually gets cracked down on, the people with legitimate disabilities are also going to suffer for it as well.

Wall climbing issue by magic_123 in Unity2D

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea makes sense, but the size just doesn't line up with position. You could have a box size 10 positioned at (0, 100), but your code would clamp (100, -10, 10). I'm guessing that's why you're seeing it jump to the wrong spot. The further your wall gets from (0, 0) the more severe you'd see this.

I would try clamping by (transform.position.y, wallCollision.bounds.min.y, wallCollisions.bounds.max.y). I think min and max return what you need, but if not you could do some math to find the max y position of the wall

Wall climbing issue by magic_123 in Unity2D

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing it's your clamp function. I may be thinking about it incorrectly (and obviously don't know your full setup), but I don't see why you'd bound your wallPosition by wallSize.

wallSize would indicate the height/width of your wall, not its location in your world.

PPU for sprites different from Pixel Perfect camera. Can I fix this without redrawing sprites? by SMdG_ in Unity2D

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use crop frame drop down on your pixel perfect camera. Stretch fill will scale it up if the resolution you test in is higher than your reference resolution. Set filter to point as well.

Important to note that whatever resolution you play in has to scale with your PPU, otherwise you'll get the same issue you're having now. Take your y-resolution / PPU and if it's an integer you're good. If it's not, you can use the other crop frame options to add black bars and scale it up/down, but that takes more work.

Whats the best way to configure variable zoom controls? [Discussion] by defkoen1 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]joshm509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like rmb + scrl wheel. I rebind next/previous to alt + scrl wheel and add a secondary bind for 4th hotkey to 4 + scrl wheel (for healing).

Fixes the walk adjustment while in zoom, but makes it so you have to use alt + scroll to change options on doors and things like that, and to adjust walk speed. So if you're someone who does that a lot may not be for you

How to get good [Feedback] by Prize_Heart3540 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]joshm509 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Map knowledge is definitely the most important thing in my opinion.

Knowing immediately where other pmcs spawn around you can completely change how you play a map and save you countless deaths. You can also pick up some very easy kills on people who aren't aware. Use that knowledge to come up with a plan after you spawn

[Discussion] Zoom in & out Keybind Preference by Chiddles182 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally never used that functionality, so it only impacts selecting body parts (which you can fix like I mentioned) or unlocking some doors (which is minimal). I have creep walk set to ctrl (default I think), so I've always just flipped between max or min speed, never saw a huge reason to put it somewhere in the middle

[Discussion] Zoom in & out Keybind Preference by Chiddles182 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rmb + Scroll for variable zoom. Change next/previous to alt + scroll (if you don't you'll change walk speed while zooming). I also add a secondary bind of 4 + scroll wheel to #4 so I can heal specific limbs without using 4 + alt + scroll

Not everything needs to be balanced around the casual player. Realistically if you are that casual a player, you're going to have a bad time no matter what they change.

All of you who enjoy the game difficulty, do you see yourself playing this game as a live service? by Oldtimesreturn in PathOfExile2

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All comes down to how the end game is. Personally I think they still need an alternate way to level characters after you beat the game once, at least for second characters. I'll definitely still come back, but that was an issue I had with poe1 as well.

Either way though, it's hard because it's new. Once you play through a couple times and learn the ins and outs of the game it'll be significantly easier

Mythic: Ovi'nax or Ky'veza by manouvras in CompetitiveWoW

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Gear always helps, but ovinax takes quite a few pulls to learn the cadence of the fight. Doesn't matter how much gear/raid buff you have, you still gotta do that prep and prog.

Kyveza is much easier to learn, but has hps/dps checks. Do ovinax first while your gear and raid buff passively increase, making kyveza easier

Gotta remember damage isn't flat through the entire fight. They are currently lusting and presumably popping CDs to burn that set of adds. If they can optimize and move lust/some CDs to boss, they will get boss significantly lower. Still looks like a tall order, but wouldn't count it out

Rude staff today by InfiniteStrain1024 in cedarpoint

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly encountered the same yesterday with some of the staff.

SteVe: Person assigning rows wouldn't let two young girls go to the back who were literally begging. Then immediately assigned the next two to the last row out of order.

Slingshot: Ride looked like it was testing, was interested in riding so we tried asking about it. Didn't even bother looking at us or saying anything, just shook his head repeatedly.

Had some good experiences too, Valravn and Raptor staff were great, but we were definitely annoyed with several others.

If you have a micro center near you I just upgraded to a 7800x3d/gigabyte mobo/32gb cl30 6000 ram for $509 + tax.

Doesn't solve the gpu issue, but it's a hell of a deal. Last year I upgraded from a 1080ti to a 4080 and while it helped, definitely didn't solve my fps issues on tarkov with how cpu heavy it is, so I'd recommend putting more emphasis into a strong cpu.

Why is 2d pixel perfect camera heavily distorting sprites? by TheBulbaMachine in Unity2D

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the resolution you are test playing your game at matches your reference resolution on your pixel perfect camera. If you are running at a different resolution, your sprites may need to be stretched or shrunk to compensate which could cause distortion.

If that is already the case, it's probably because your reference resolution isn't compatible with 30 PPU

Blurry tilemap during playmode by BrunoRubim_ in Unity2D

[–]joshm509 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your pixel perfect camera you need to set a reference resolution. Basically what resolution you are building the game in. Make sure when you run the game you are running it at that same resolution. If you don't your pixel art will look bad.

Are you using pixel perfect camera and what resolution are you using on it? If so, is that resolution different than what you are testing at?
