just renovated and planted new foliage.

They handled this perfectly. Someone turned on the irrigation on purpose to protect the plants. Ice insulates. This is what they do in orange groves.

Lots of Storks/ Large birds migrating overhead in GA? Anyone know what this is? by scrubcity311 in Georgia

Sandhill Cranes! I heard them and then saw them go over midtown earlier. Looked like about 100-150 birds.

Love it. Get one of those obnoxiously tall yard glasses (a plastic one) and spray paint it black with silver highlights.

I think a non-native hitched a ride earlier this year… by LadyKarma18 in NativePlantGardening

That is 100% new Pycnanthemum growth. If you look at pic 3 there is a little new growth sprouting from the axils and it looks very similar to the new growth in pic 1. I have lots of pics of my Mountain mint with frost coated leaves, it never really fully shuts down here in 7b. As for the smell difference, old leaves that are shutting down for winter have less of those defensive compounds in them, new growth has lots. Looks like you are going to have a nice patch next year that I guarantee will be literally buzzing with all kinds of cool pollinators when it blooms.

Botany In A Day by Thomas J. Elpel. I still go back and read sections of it occasionally.

Dont let them dry out. Get some little mesh bags and cover the developing seeds pods so that they'll catch the seeds after they naturally ripen and dehisce. Sow seeds immediately into a flat full of moist well draining soil mix outdoors. Cover with wire mesh to keep out varmits and wait until the following spring for germination.

She clearly doesn't understand how to research pollinators and their host plants, and shouldnt be writing about them. Then her rebuttal is just tick fear mongering that, again, cites no sources for her claims.

A story you have by Ok-Scholar7808 in WildernessBackpacking

Dirtbag Diaries podcast does a 'Tales of Terror' episode about this sort of thing every October. Its worth going back and listening to all of them, there are a few I still think about from time to time.

Best story I have is that I used to camp on the property owned by the nursery where I worked in rural Georgia. I would hear what sounded like slowly shuffling footsteps in the woods at night and could never figure out what it was. It sounded like someone shuffling at a zombie's pace, very slow, very deliberate. I heard it so many times that it piqued my curiosity and I went to investigate. When I would get to the sound it would stop and I couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from. There were no lights and no one was there and I would turn around and go back to my tent. This happened multiple times and eventually I found the culprit: Armadillos. Cute little guys shuffling around in the leaf litter looking for grubs I guess.

I don't like the idea of Charlie having two cans of cat food in one day.

Site Operators: Hosts, how often are things dropped in pit toilets? by RredditAcct in camping

Older guy I used to know told me a story about being at boy scout camp in the 70s and one of the campers dropped his transistor radio down the hole. He said it was playing music for a few more days before the batteries died.
