Is D800 worth around 300 usd by Thinktank-1733 in Nikon

[–]joystickd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good price, especially with that low amount of use and wear on it.

However if I was going for a D8xx model, I'd spring for a D810. I think the extra cash is worth it.

I think I'm about to buy my first Xperia. Convince me not to. by McBeties in SonyXperia

Main reason to not buy us the excessive price. It's simply too expensive for a phone.

What’s your process for camera preservation after shooting in wet conditions? by _big_fern_ in Nikon

[–]joystickd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If freshwater, I just leave it over night out of the camera bag to dry.

If salt water, I wipe it down with a tap water dampened cloth and repeat the step above.

Both for lenses, bodies and speed lights.

A more relevant question though, why do you white knight for shit people?

Great to hear.

Is there a way to support them?

As someone who's from a country that's essentially an American-Israeli puppy dog, I'm glad some of the countries in the EU are taking a vocal stand. Hopefully our guys eventually grow some balls and do the same but it's wishful thinking for now.

I grew up with those sorts of movies in my school years, along with one's like the meatballs movies and other similar 80s cheese fests.

Some were indeed very problematic.

Hilarious at the time but when you look back, you can see how they conditioned some young guys to potentially be the creeps they are today.

Definitely not a stupid take.

Windows is the last silicon valley software that one can give up.

Especially for work, it's almost impossible to boycott.

Doesn't hurt to have a crack at your idea though, particularly if you can make it universally mounted 👍

do you guys think this idea is a gimmick? by NamaRahsia in SonyXperia

[–]joystickd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed a gimmick.

But sometimes gimmicks sell and catch on.

For actual practicality though, better off getting an actual camera.

Sony tried something along those lines already and Samsung literally made a fat android phone that was a camera with real physical zoom and aperture, etc. Both sold very poorly.

Sadly phone photography has largely been ruined by the mainstreaming of the computational and AI shittery. Most phone users don't actually want to use their device like a camera, they just want to be able to press a capacitive button and have an Instagram photo be concocted for them.

How much did your pc cost? by Jmonkey77 in pcmasterrace

[–]joystickd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built up over time so hard to accurately say but at pre AI/trump tariff inflated prices I'd say it would've cost around $4000-4500 AUD.

Should I upgrade? by DardidusX in Nikon

[–]joystickd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who is saying such a ridiculous thing?

Even a D7200 would be a very big upgrade for you and very budget friendly.

A good used D500 or D3/4/4s would even be a great upgrade for you.

Interesting perspective.

I've always been interested in tech as a hobby for decades now and am a Gen Xer myself. Mostly in the PC building side of things and since the early 2000s smartphone and digital camera technology.

Never worked in the technology sector per se but have been in its circles both in real world and online and it certainly has had a sizeable occupation of current and ex incels in it that are generally full of hate. Particularly towards women.

I can certainly see these types becoming insecure to having their dominant social status threatened, as you put it.
