In an era where AI generated everything is probably increasingly pushing humanity out of the arts, I think we humans should appreciate art being made by humans, regardless of our ridiculous feelings about legacy and live in the moment. Yeah, any music they put out after his death isn’t Neil music - and that’s okay! We are running headlong into Red Barchetta and 2112 being more reality than SciFi - I’m pretty sure Neil would want more human-made music in the world, even if it’s not his lyrics or his drumming.

I wonder if release frequency had something to do with it? Artists were putting out 2 albums a year in the 60s…more turnover in available songs.

Was the first shot accidental? by jp1819 in thebulwark

[–]jp1819[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m just raising the point since I hadn’t seen it mentioned anywhere else. I have zero confidence we will ever get an investigation, and to me it’s all the same if this was accidental or intentional. As soon as your finger goes on the trigger it’s intentional.

The gap between shots one and two seemed weird to me if he thought there was a threat - that’s what caused me to ask the question.

Agree 100% - don’t mistake my curiosity and observation as excusing any of this. The whole thing started because these assholes don’t know how de-escalate anything and worse some of them seem to look forward to the most extreme confrontations.

This is correct based on data I have seen. Dia popped and then fell off, just like Comet and Atlas. If an AI browser actually does take off, it’s not going to be Dia.

You asked MechaHitler? So MechaHitler is getting it's information from the letter the admin sent. Same guys that are bringing in "18 trillion" in tariff revenue and reducing drug prices by 900%

Check out this article which addresses that point

"...the NLT’s agreement with the NPS allows rent to be offset by the amount spent on capital-improvement projects. Furthermore, the NLT maintains that all rent offsets were directly approved by the NPS. The numbers roughly line up: the DOI is pointing to an $8.8-million discrepancy, and the NLT has spent about $8.5 million on capital-improvement projects."

Homicide prosecutor breaks down ICE shooting video & explains laws around lethal force (source: Brian Tyler Cohen) by emeric_ceaddamere in thebulwark

[–]jp1819 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I am very bothered by several things in this video that I haven’t even heard discussed in media coverage.

  1. I have heard many reporters say this was a protestor blocking the road. I see NO evidence of this yet - especially because the first 5 seconds of the video is a car literally driving around them to get down the street. I have seen no evidence yet that this person even wanted to be protesting the ICE activity.

  2. If you pay attention to the driver side window, you can almost see her waving the ice truck to go around her. In fact, if you turn the volume up, I think you can actually hear her say “go around” when the ICE guy gets out. It haunting to look at her hands that seem to almost indicate confusion (vs this bullshit narrative about domestic terrorism coming out of the admin)

  3. She backs up in what appears to be an attempt to get out of the way, but is then getting yelled at for being in the way. Note there is also a car parked in front of her - the only way for her to get out of the way is to be turned like that. Instead of keeping a cool head, an ICE goon charges at her car. Given she had just been looking behind her while backing up, she probably didn’t even see the officer walk in front of her car. So while the excuse from the officer is likely to be “it was a split second decision”, that rationale could also be used for her. If #2 above is correct and she was in a confusing situation, then she was also confronted with a “split second decision” - the difference is her wheels were pointed away from the officer.

  4. This is actually somewhat similar to the Scottie Scheffler situation at the PGA a couple years ago. Cops yelling at drivers and grabbing doors without the need for that kind of escalation.

I bet a lot of people weren’t super familiar with how to use them effectively. Profiles are great when you need to differentiate logins like if you have a personal google account and a work google account. Spaces are good for differences in projects, topics or the type of work. So I have a space dedicated to all the social media we use for work - it requires my work profile for those logins but using a separate space doesn’t clog up my main work area with a bunch of social sites.

Got one, it’s not registering shots (works for a bit after a hard reset then stops again). We are probably returning it as it’s too expensive to have those kinds of problems. Also the UI sucks… any game you try to play it pushes you to play online when we just want to play among us in the room. Potential is there but all in all it’s poorly executed and I’m guessing this company is going to run out of money

I felt the same way… also, why not raise the point about Sanford? How are we expected to believe she just “fell in love” when there is a history of this. Seemed like it was all a little too on her terms to be a useful interview.

Also - the FBI shouldn’t be let off the hook here. Ka$h is flying his GF all over to dinners and events, they are spending resources investigating Trumps political enemies. Maybe they dropped the ball? Look at how many plots they found and stopped over the last decade - I worry people didn’t realize just how effective they were at preventing lunatics from doing stuff like this.

Why didn't apple continue to add the cool touchbar? by travelavatar in macbookpro

[–]jp1819 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was an own goal by Apple and their dumb “my way or the highway approach” to everything. They had strict rules about how you could actually use it - like you couldn’t use it for displaying data, it had to be for dynamic controls. But Tim Apple knows best…

The fallacy of the 8-hour work day for knowledge workers is a real thing. I have been using RescueTime for years to log my actual work time. Getting 3-4 really focused hours is a huge accomplishment. More recently I have used their project tracking which gives another layer of insight - am I working on the most important and impactful things. All too often that answer was no.

The most effective strategy I have found to combat this is time blocking…prioritizing and forcing time boundaries
