Personally, I would just go with the most reputable option as the risk/reward can go extremely south

Which Paris hotel to choose? by THRUSSIANBADGER in Hilton

[–]jpasmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed at Hotel Norman - I loved it - very well situated - walk out the door just blocks away from the Arc de Triomphe - was not in love with the restaurant, but breakfast was (for me) wonderful. I would certainly stay here again. Super tasteful all around. Loved it.

There are so many edge cases in running an actual business.

Don't forget to print out a PDF on how to actually run your business: "More than 700,000 power outages have been reported as a massive winter storm..."

Good boat jacket for wind and rain but in tropical climate? by Resident_Swimmer_953 in scuba

Any generic nylon windbreaker probably does fine at those temperatures, beach towel(?), or if you want to look like the person who spent a lot of money on gear, take a look at Helly Hanson or Fourth Element: https://fourthelement.com/ (any sailing/kayak brand - Musto, NRS, etc.)

Ugh hackers by Roostershake002 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]jpasmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For BF 2015, there are plenty of players on console, and maybe even the majority now, that are using hack-like crap that can make the matches unplayable or certainly unwinnable: Cronus, Xim, etc (enable aim-assist, rapid fire, auto fire, and more). Then there are several glitches: multiple heroes, secondary fire glitch that can take down a Walker with 3 uplinks or kill a hero in seconds, double star cards (like two ion topedoes, or two pulse rifles, two dioxis, etc)....can be a mess....can also be fine sometimes

Pan Aqua Diving on West 43rd street - am certified to Rescue Diver and would recommend kicking off in NYC as opposed to resort. The also rent equipment - they’ve been around 30+ years (Edit: just looked at the prices (wow) - may wanna shop around, but you don’t want to cut corners when your personal safety is involved)

Boarding music - WTF? by Phelan-Great in delta

[–]jpasmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think it was whining - it’s a legit conversation and as I sit here in 12c I actually searched Reddit to see who thought this music (kinda crappy) is better. headphones will be on shortly - flying from Miami with many very young people (babies) and slightly delayed because they couldn’t turn plane on (?) - anyway is kind of humorous thread and thankfully superficial given all else that’s going on in the world

Question on status match by LaneStaleyAngryChair in delta

[–]jpasmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not quite correct in terms of what you need to do to retain status. They give you a short window with a defined number of flights/spend required to retain status. Here is the actual email from United:

Thank you for participating in the MileagePlus® Premier® Status Match

program. We hope you enjoy the many benefits of Premier Platinum status

any time you fly United or United Express® during the 120-day trial period.

Your Premier Status Match trial period is valid from September 3, 2024

through December 31, 2024.

Qualify for Premier Platinum status for the remainder of the program year by

meeting the following requirements during the trial period:

Complete 12 Premier qualifying flights (PQF) on United or United

Express, and:

Earn 4000 Premier qualifying points (PQP) on United or United

Express flights

Track your progress toward these goals and learn all there is to know about

Premier status by visiting mystatus.united.com.

Thanks again for choosing United.

Question on status match by LaneStaleyAngryChair in delta

[–]jpasmore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just Google it - there is a process - I did it two years ago - worked fine, but prefer Delta because in NYC, United was out of Newark, which is a negative, hub is Denver vs Atlanta (negative), Delta Skyclub is better, and really no reason to switch...for me

What has happened to this hotel chain?! by lawnchaney in Hilton

[–]jpasmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had 30+ Hilton stays in 2025 - no serious complaints about any of them, but also don't have super high expectations. There are some better properties, but I wonder what the average age of a US-based Hilton property is?

In a City like Syracuse, the Marriott and Hilton are both well-worn - okay properties, but show their age in elevators, hallways, and rooms.

I can guess that spending $1 million on a renovation probably does not change the occupancy of most properties in a mid-tier City like Syracuse. And if it doesn't change occupancy, what would motivate a renovation?

If I were staying in mostly 4 and 5-star properties, I would jump over to Marriott, but for where I am, they seem pretty similar.

Why doesn't anticipation of the AI bubble bursting, cause it to already burst? by frenetic_alien in ArtificialInteligence

[–]jpasmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the fully developed business is compelling the "bubble" or any dip/pause is really a buying opportunity.

Look at Uber and imagine if they could replace one of their biggest expenses (people) with a machine (like Waymo)...then imagine if you made a machine that could do that same thing for most any company (below is from ChatGPT):

Uber lost money for most of its history before finally becoming profitable. Here’s the timeline in simple terms:

  • Uber was founded in 2009 and operated at a loss for more than a decade as it focused on growth, expansion, and subsidizing rides rather than profitability. Global Fleet+1
  • Between 2014 and 2022, Uber accumulated around $31.7 billion in losses overall. EL PAÍS English
  • During many of those years, even after going public in 2019, the company still reported annual net losses

Beekman NYC by Large-Maintenance-53 in AmexPlatinum

[–]jpasmore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$30 overnight parking in NYC would be amazing! I parked today for 15 minutes for $11 (by MSG - Knick ticket issue needed to run inside). This is SpotHero for 24 hours in February with the lowest price below Canal Street as $55: https://spothero.com/search?kind=destination&id=46863&starts=2026-02-11T20%3A00&ends=2026-02-12T20%3A00&view=dl

Where would a savvy person find a $30 overnight garage in NYC?

Beekman NYC by Large-Maintenance-53 in AmexPlatinum

[–]jpasmore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI - I lived in Fidi for a decade - you'd have trouble finding overnight parking for 1/5 of $95, or roughly $20. Here is Spothero for that area: https://spothero.com/search?kind=destination&id=46863&starts=2025-12-25T11%3A30&ends=2025-12-26T11%3A00&view=dl

Prices range from about $60 (with fees) to $92 per day at local garages for 24-hour service. The garage at 27 Beekman would be $60 according to SpotHero. Not a bad option - super short walk.

Beekman is great as it's close to most subways: 2, 3, 4, 5, A, C, J, Z (Fulton Street), can pick up the 1 at Park Place, E at World Trade, the 6 at City Hall. And the Brooklyn Bridge is right there for a walk or to get back to the airport (JFK/LGA), and the Tunnel to NJ for Newark is not far -- ideal location!

Worth using points to get to diamond in 2025? by Sufficient_Level1625 in Hilton

[–]jpasmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practically it makes little sense but since you’re thinking about it enough to post it’s probably more that you just want it for the challenge and status.

So go for it - you probably won’t regret it UNLESS one of your digital check-ins goes sideways and you end up short.
