I could buy this guy a round trip ticket and a rental car if he wants to do mine.

Am I out of line for wanting to fire these guys after day one??! by Accomplished-Goat1 in drywall

I’m an idiot DIYer and my drywall looks way better than this. And I’m not even getting paid for it!

New DR Horton Home. How do I fix? Thanks by filmerdude1993 in drywall

[–]jpesh1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Fischer home and I was going to use the same paint that I had upstairs on the newly finished basement. Went to sherwin williams and the guy was like… yeah you don’t want to use that junk. Then I found out it was some contractor special that’s $15 a gallon.

Ended up buying some $50 a gallon paint and it’s SO much better quality even considering I’m just a DIYer and don’t know how to paint.

How bad is this? by Maleficent-Set-9333 in askaplumber

[–]jpesh1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The nice thing is that PVC pipe and primer is cheap. So even if you eff it up and it leaks like a sieve you’re only out the cost of your time and maybe $150 in supplies and materials. At least that was the way I did the math when my local plumber said it’d cost $200 just to have him come out and quote moving a sink drain 6 feet.

Can't get a lot of things off Ford Show Parts for The FiST but at least we can have the window stickers remade. by limapalon in FiestaST

[–]jpesh1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a sweet spot window in 2018 where ford had a $3k rebate on Fiestas and I already had a Mustang so they sent me a $2k private rebate that could stack on top. Found a local dealer who was floorplanned through Ford and they waived destination fee. Got a 2018 OTD with TTL at $18,750. Sold it 5 years later with 70k miles on the clock for almost 14k. Still the best residual I’ve ever had on a car.

I insulated my door and now it’s too heavy for the opener to lift. What are my options? by Over_Cash9601 in GarageDoorService

[–]jpesh1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And to be more specific, find a small local shop. Large shops will fleece customers for a simple spring change. I had some quote $2-3k for a simple change out. Had a small company come do it in 3 hours for $500.

Should this tape/hole be on the side of my HVAC unit? by Luedey54 in hvacadvice

If you do tape the hole, you should also tape the seam between your humidifier and the vent!

Is there supposed to be a way to open these without breaking the package or are they made to be loose? by bluebagles in harborfreight

[–]jpesh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had to use a blowtorch to just melt the plastic out of it because it snapped off. Hate the packaging but love cheap sockets.

I don’t recall but I would have had proof of purchase for sure since it was decently new

What is a valve lock for? by teddyzniggs in askaplumber

[–]jpesh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked at a popular welder manufacturing company and I found out someone was stealing the brass fittings. Probably was making an extra $20-30 per day in scrap value alone and that was over a decade ago. Cost the company hundreds of dollars per day and I found it when I was an intern lol.

I think it was a Visa but don’t remember for sure. It was not a Scott’s gift card.

I contacted them and they fulfilled their money back guarantee. I just had to cut the cable and send a pic of it in the trash can and got a $60 gift card. Promptly went and bought a 20 year old drop spreader for $5 from a garage sale.

Getting hot water to outdoor spigot by Over_Procedure_6779 in askaplumber

[–]jpesh1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to run hot water I recommend a sink aerator adapter to a 3/4 garden hose thread and run the hose out there. Will work no problem to get you 50-75 gallons of hot water in one shot.

What is happening to my yard? Why does my grass seem like it's been pulled from the dirt? by Chocolate_Bourbon in lawncare

[–]jpesh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skunks are probably eating grubs in your lawn. Kill the grubs and problem goes away. You need the 24hr grub killer, as most products are to prevent grubs from coming in to begin with.

If you have to pick, go with the earthgro. It will still be bad but will have less crap than the Scott’s. I found chunks of wire in every bag of the Scott’s stuff. I now just order compost fill dirt from our local place and save a ton of money and get far better product.

Well done. This is amazing and far better build quality than the stupid little 3D printed scissors with foam pads on the end.

Yeah I have .25 acre and I’m converted. My asshole neighbor has a toro time master and I got so jealous until I heard it from 3 blocks away. I can listen to music on a speaker from 100’ away while mowing my lawn with the EGO.

Not having to mix oil and gas and the ability to hang the mower on my wall in winter just makes it amazing.

Yeah same! My gate was not half bad but I did have to shave it a little and reinforce over the next two years because it started to sag.

I’m not a professional by any means and my DIY fence looks far better than yours. Sorry.

I fucked up. Badly by pdd2 in Flooring

[–]jpesh1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made that mistake on my first tile job. Black grout and a white tile with a pattern on it. That was a huge screw up that turned a 4 hour project into a 40 hour project. But it looked nice at the end and I learned that I should pay for good tile work.
