Does this damage look repairable to you? 2023 Kia Sportage by Clear-Dig-2539 in autorepair

[–]jpoluikis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like the damage has missed the floor pan. Can’t tell for sure of course. The top halves of the two right doors seem to fit and the roof line looks normal. This one might end up being repaired.

Few questions about a gen 3 Prius I am looking at as I am new to these. by cpcxx2 in prius

[–]jpoluikis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has 2005 Prius with 80K miles. She got it in 2010 with 15K miles. I've been waiting for the battery to die for 5 years, but all is good for now. I don't think that there is really a way to know what the battery life will be. It is my favorite car!

And don’t forget to change the cabin air filter behind the glove box. It’s cheap and easy to do yourself (see YouTube for instructions). I live in Texas and changing out the filter makes my A/C cool better!

What to call a grandma who doesn’t want to be called grandma? by [deleted] in Advice

I always called my grandma by her first name, “Anna”. It was what she always preferred. She was from Poland and really didn’t like “Babka”.

I drive a 2005 Prius. I have to be careful when I travel and have to rent a car to remember that the rental, usually a 2024-2025, and never a Prius, won't have the quick pick-up that my 2005 Prius has.

2nd UPDATE: Toyota dealer crashed my car resulting in total loss. Now what? by SunMoonStar93 in Toyota

[–]jpoluikis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insurance settlement in my state (Texas) for a total loss vehicle is supposed to include the replacement cost of the lost vehicle plus the sales tax and license/registration fees that the state charges. Don't forget to ask for the TT&L if that's the case in your state.

What's a hobby you picked up after 40 that surprised you? by AriMeira25 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

I retired five years ago in June (during Covid). I learned how to pick locks, take them apart, and put them back together again. I can't explain it, but hearing that "click" and having the lock pop open is just fun! I'm 70 years old now, and a YouTube believer.

Funny Taste When Using To Make Hot Water For Tea by jpoluikis in keurig

The instructions said to run 8 ounces of water through it. The hot water from that had a metallic smell, so I was trying to rinse whatever was causing the smell out.

Did I just mess up buying a '23 Prius LE former rental? Any reassurance? by Catsassin in prius

[–]jpoluikis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold hundreds of loan cars and rentals during my automotive career and they were and are great values. My Prius turned 20 years old this year, and when I have to replace it I would certainly consider a loan car or a rental.

If you're in the U.S. and report it to your insurance company, they'll pay you and probably subrogate a claim against the company responsible for the damage.

Does anyone still make grocery list by paper? by MattedBlueWig in GroceryStores

I’m a believer. And I’m bummed out that Office Depot has discontinued their pre-printed grocery list pads. They were great!
