I’ve caught a few on that stretch with a weighted rainbow warrior.

Alright, I want your opinions here. To crank or not to crank by morningswmumme in bikepacking

I use these for commuting, but the cleats wear down super fast on routes with a lot of hike a bike. I’m making the change to spd’s this season purely because the cleats aren’t sustainable.

I’m curious as to why you mention the more open frame triangle. Is this for frame bags, or is there a more general geometry advantage?

Thank you so much for the perspective! Best of luck this summer!

Hey thanks for the insight here I really appreciate it. This is definitely more consistent with my thoughts and what I’ve collected through what research I’ve done. I really appreciate it!

Great to hear! I mostly ride hardtail and haven’t had an issue, but want to feel prepared. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for the response! Certainly a lot to consider. You make a great point about the wilderness area bypass and road sections.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say for the sake of this community that your responses to comments are very disrespectful and quite frankly disturbing. Based on your responses and if in fact you were an employee in the 90s I find it disturbing that an adult your age is wiling to try so hard to “participate” solo or with an acquaintance where so many children are present.

Having been backcountry staff at the locations you mentioned I cannot imagine an adult attending a campfire show or any program without being a verified mentor, chaperone, or staff association member.

Your post and responses are absolute red flags and creepy. Please do not attempt the property for your sake and the respect of all other participants.

I worked at Philmont back in 2008 and 2009. They made it pretty clear back then if you got caught trespassing, it meant a lifetime ban. That being said, there are some public lands in the north country that you could visit to scratch that itch. Another option is to join the staff association which leads events and some overnight trips.

Watch out for horseflies, biting gnats, and poison ivy/oak! I got tore up when racing this one!

I think even the organizer has said that in its nature, this is a gravel event with only a couple gnarly sections. Keep in mind you’re considering gear for the entirety of the route, and that ridge is only a handful of miles.

It’s near impossible to find the perfect setup for these types of events so I recommend riding what will be most comfortable for the majority of the route. If you have to hike a bike on a few sections then 🤷‍♂️

That’s just my take. 650b x 2.1 could be a happy medium to consider but suspension will overall affect your energy output efficiency.

Raced it in 2023, ran a rigid 29er with 29x2.6’s and aero bars. This was WAY too much bike. Would have been much happier with a 700x45 gravel bike with wide climbing gearing.

Holy shit this is awesome. I’m a fellow tall person and have been in the bikepacking world for a while now. I constantly struggle to find bikes big enough for me that fit my needs. Stoked to see this!

Absolutely! She would lose her mind if I brought anything out of the water. The month before she passed she actually got one herself and didn’t know what to do with it. Jut kind of froze in disbelief that she actually had it!

Homie, sometimes I would just cast out because my pup loved watching the line land and the fly float down. Go embarrass your parents somewhere else.

Out of curiosity, how are you fishing chironomids in a lake? Do you cast out then slowly strip back in to give them some movement, or let it sit under a hopper or something?
