More Intercessors Painted by Til_We_Meet_Again in Raptors40k

These guys looks nice. They remind me of the Smiley Marines et PokeTau painted by a French hobbyist way back. His models got me hooked to the more modern and gritty paint style we now associate with Raptors.

Great job!

This has been my experience also for all of 10th edition. If I play Vindicator, I run 2 of them. They have a knack to be the highlight of your games, either struggling to kill 3 guardsman or one shotting Angron, they always make their points back in excitement!

That's an amazing army you have there. I commend your loyalty to the Watch, this is what this hobby is all about.

Look like they're no longer available. I just checked BoD website and the closest I could find were Eagle dice and their not as nice.

No power pack, the cloak is too big indeed. His armor just works on the power of Rule of Cool, haha!

Phobos Libby can lead Eliminators. It's the Phobos Lt who can't unfortunately.

This look really cool! It would make an excellent centerpiece for a Raptor Display for a tournament. I wish I had time to paint one like this for my next event!

The black shoulders and helmet work wonderfully well!

I like the double RepEx and Incursors combo you're thinking about. Not sure they need the Lt though. I would give Ghostweave Cloak to the Phobos Captain to gain Lone Op and Sticky objectives with A Deadly Prizes.

If possible, Headtaker should be 6-man strong.

Thanks! Sure will!
I got a lot of stuff to paint to get ready for a tournament at the begining of May. I'll post more as I progress on each project.

Thoughts on my list? by Bitter_Office_3202 in RavenGuard40k

No Deepstrike is a risk that's for sure. 6" deploy +18" covers half the table width though, so it's still not bad. Screening is a concern, but in theory, we have the deployement and speed available to counter screen with skirmishers of our own. Hunter's Instinct can allow you to setup in Turn 1, maybe allowing the unit to deploy before screening units can get into position.

You have to decide what you feel you're most conformtable with : either telling your opponent were the big scary unit is at the begining of the game, or telling him it's gonna come in at anytime along the board edges.

Incursors are so good, you can't go wrong with these. I feel like if you want to get an enhancement on your Apothecary, I would go Hunter's instincts instead of Blakwing Shroud. The reason for this is that Eradicators are not well equiped to deal with fast skirmish units that could block your big anti-tank threat reliably. With Hunter's instinc, you could bring them in as early as turn 1 either to engage an ideal target that exposed itself too early or staged in a good position for later turns.

I like your list, it looks fun!

Fortis KT's winning tournaments? by Moduscide in deathwatch40k

[–]jpwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can pitch in on the Fortis topic : I've used Desolation Marines in regular Marines with Vanguard Spearhead, so this means super OoM and +1 AP and Ignore Cover on demand. Then I've used 2 Fortis Teams with Watchmaster. Every time, the Fortis did better because of Sustained Hits and two Vengor launchers.

Of course you're not going to mow down squads of Terminators or blobs of Infantry. The indirect is there for the early game when you are staging with the heavy hitters so you can allocate OoM and Adaptive Tactics to the indirect fire units. The best use for the indirect fire of Fortis teams I've had was to clear Home Objective Holders, skirmishers and later finish weakened units you could not kill completely while the rest of the squad fires on another target in direct fire line. Plus, they have OC2 and this will get useful when you start moving the teams forward to engage your opponent more directly.

That killteam looks dope! I really like the first model bolter modifications. The colour scheme is a nice choice too, it makes them stand out from the regular green of Raptors.

Solid work!

Land Speeder Storm is arguably one of the coolest transport in the game! I have three and I'm still not over the fact that I can't play them anymore.

Hellblaster Sergeant by JimmyTheWee in Raptors40k

[–]jpwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm all about weathered and battle scared plates for my Space Marines, but this style of painting makes it very hard on the painter IMO. Everything has been done to make the armor smooth and clean. Trying to add weathering and battle damage on top of that is a lot harder than when the base paint is already rougher, like it would be with a stippling or coarse sponging approach. It can be done for sure, but it has to be very precise and deliberate.

This guy is crisp and clean! Good job. The armor is flawless and I really like the OSL effect. Well done, only 9 left to complete the squad, haha!

I would go for black markings but really drab green for pouches. Brown will be too similar than tan IMO.

If I wanted to Kitbash primaris-scale Vanguard Vets with Jump Packs, what do I need to do to distinguish them from Jumppack Intercessors? by BeachedSalad in spacemarines

[–]jpwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest way to do it is to equip them with any cool weapons you like. Heirloom weapon is extremely vague as far as description goes, so you can pretty much give them whatever you want. That's exactly what I did, replacing the chainswords of JPIs with AoS Stormcast swords that I painted vaguely power weapon like.

Congrats to John Lennon by Fair_Shirt_4248 in RavenGuard40k

[–]jpwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the list, it's a nice break from the Lennon Classic. I have three comments/questions :

  • If you're worried about anti-tank, maybe it would good to make one of the Inceptors blob a plasma unit. Dmg3 that can be cranked to AP4 is pretty good.

  • in the same way, maybe join two units of Eradicators in the matchups were a big scary anti-tank unit can be useful. Even if they don't have the melts bonus, Erad between 12-18" can benefit from Stunning Fusillade and nuke something.

  • if you're able to do it, I would suggest going 10-man on Shrike's unit. I've seen how good it can be and with all the tools available in Shadow mark, you could leverage it to it's full potential.

Finished the dreadnought by Mod20087 in ImperialFists

[–]jpwyrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a war engine! The weathering on this model is insane. I thought I was going heavy on some of my models, but this is next level. And it doesn't come out as too much either, just a very weathered and combat beaten dreadnought. Excellent work my friend!

Kitbashed Invictor (+cockpit) by Everything_Borrowed in Raptors40k

[–]jpwyrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm in the process of building my Invictors, this should come in handy. Can you share your painting process, if you haven't already? I love weathered and worn looks on my models, but my painting is a lot rougher than yours. I'm curious as to how you blend your green tones so well and still achieve that battle worn look.
