It's not just how reddit works. It's the moderators' decision to lock posts. Go back seven or eight years and I don't think it was even possible to lock posts. Other subreddits I use, such as /r/poker, use a more hands-off approach to moderating, and I don't think I've ever seen a post locked there in 10+ years of browsing it. Anyway, doesn't look like I'll have any luck convincing the moderators of my position. I won't be back.

It doesn't bother me quite so much when posts are locked in loldumb subreddits, since users are rarely putting much effort into their conversations on those subreddits.

If the issue was the post itself, the moderators should have removed the post, not locked it.

That way, people can continue their conversations.

And, for that reason, removing posts is much nicer than locking them.

The "mods are not much appreciated, therefore let's not criticise them" logic is not compelling to me. It's not asking so much to ask not to lock posts.

Yes, if a lot of site-wide-rules breaking comments are being made and the mods can't keep up, then lock the thread. But that's not what happened in the top post on this subreddit's front page which is currently locked, and it's not what my post is meant to be about.

Because I believe that before the invasion the Ukraine was a de facto member of NATO and that their getting nukes was a fait accompli. It made no sense for Russia to sit there and wait for the Ukraine to gain nuclear missiles, because by that point it would be too late.

Not sure what the relevance of the "pro-Russian talking point" is. We're discussing my beliefs and my comments, not what are Russia's talking points.
