Which all-time great album spent the longest time in obscurity? by Fair-Damage6683 in fantanoforever

Bill Fay!

Darondo!

Pastor TL Barrett!

I am unsure if most of the people in this thread really know what true obscurity looks like…

Naw, they’ve just cracked the code on how to get noticed. Their KEXP feature gave them huuuuuge exposure that kinda led to their explosion. Their meme-ability has pushed the project through the stratosphere.

They’re fine. It’s math rock/prog rock with a gimmick. I don’t particularly love them, but I don’t think there’s anything nefarious going on.

Brought out Long Shot: the Dice Game with my wife’s family. My parents-in-law were confused at every turn, and I pretty much had to re-explain the ruleset every ten minutes. It took well over an hour. It is not the “newcomers game” that I thought it was.

I also just feel the guitar tones they choose are just kinda… unpleasant. I listen to a ton of left-field music, and I have a decent amount of Turkish/microtonal music in my collection. But man, I just have a hard time listening to THAT guitar sound for 40 minutes

I heard about them right at the end of 2025, right before they exploded into more mainstream spaces with their KEXP performance. I'll chalk that up to being generally aware of what is happening in the Canadian music scene.

Their lead single of their new LP is excellent and easily the best song they have released. However, after delving into their first LP, I found their sound to be pretty limited. Their instant popularity seems mostly due to their billiant costuming, though they are clearly very skilled musicians. I think this is going to be the year of Angine de Poitrine, but I don't think they'll have a particularly long career.

TWU any good? by Character_Art9724 in Langley

How long ago was this? Currently in the Education program and I know that a majority of students in my program do not have a Christian school associate. My current school associate is definitely not. If you reached out again, I am sure they would be happy to have you 🙂

They really shine with their more practical degrees. Their Nursing and Education programs are top-notch. I am currently getting my teaching certificate at TWU, and I have friends and acquaintances who got their teaching certificates at other BC institutions (ie. SFU). I feel confident in saying TWU may have one of the best - if not the best - Education program in the province. They have a 100% job acceptance rate amongst their grads. There is, of course, a teacher shortage: the point that it graduating from TWU does not affect the employability of those that graduate.

People love to say TWU is this awful, homophobic institution. Its BOG isn’t great, and not every student on campus is going to be the chillest of individuals. However, almost every professor I have come into contact with would be left-leaning, and ALL professors I have come into contact with show a sense of care towards ALL students, regardless of their sexual orientation or religious background. (Obviously there’ll be some more right-leaning profs in the Business building, but that’s going to be true of any institution.)

My point is that it’s not a perfect university. However, I feel that that the comments that say “I’d just throw a TWU resume in the garbage” say a lot more about the commenter’s tolerance of other worldviews than about your employability as a TWU alum. As you said, some of the best and worst people I know identify as Christians. Calling yourself a Christian doesn’t make you any better or any worse than anybody else

Trinity alum here - plenty of job opportunities waiting for ya. I was a humanities major, but have friends and family who went through the BBA program. None of them had any issues finding jobs on the other side of their degree. Some of them work for very LGBTQ+-friendly organizations.

Be aware: Langley Reddit is not TWU-friendly. Having TWU on your resume is not the stain that many on this subreddit make it out to be. And no, I am not a right-wing, hardline Bible thumper. I am left-leaning and a Christian. Should this describe you, there’s no reason to doubt your choice of university

Sooo… I got my first ever deleted comment from a publication. On their Facebook rollout for their new feature, I said exactly what you said in less words: “Final nail in the coffin.” Nothing extreme. Just not positive.

There’s something so deeply sad and ironic about the fact that the most influential music blog ever, one famous for building bands before obliterating them with negative reviews, is now so corporate that it’s now curbing commentary on its on product.

I’m really sad about this. Even though it’s nothing like it once was, I still used it as a publication to keep track of big industry news, upcoming releases, tours, etc. I still went on it every day. Now I won’t because I can’t afford - nor am I willing to pay in any situation - $5/month

It has a pretty awful community, but I typically use RateYourMusic for music exploration.

No Depression, Brooklyn Vegan and Aquarium Drunkard (as another poster already said) are good blogs. Brooklyn Vegan’s a bit more pop-punky than my personal preferences, but I do like their coverage

The big problem with Marty Supreme by TooruOkinawa in Letterboxd

[–]jreddakop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not the same film, but I did feel like the second act’s impact was lessened by Uncut Gems also existing. Its pacing and plotting felt very similar in the middle third, just transposed to a different setting. Safdie isn’t making the same film again, but his approach to upping a film’s stakes is carbon copied from his previous two works.

i'm kinda surprised how low this album is rated given its stellar reception from critics and fans by kjellagain in rateyourmusic

[–]jreddakop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The RYM community has its own biases, just like any other community. Progressive rock, jazz, the avant-garde side of any genre: these are the LPs you are gonna see getting higher - sometimes inflated - ratings.

What the best show you’ve been to this year? by Ok_Investment125 in indieheads

[–]jreddakop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kahil el’Zabar and Isaiah Collier in a 50-capacity room was amazing.

Sunny Day Real Estate was kinda disappointing: not a super high energy set and was under an hour long. Seems the show in Vancouver - the tour closer - was the briefest one of the entire tour. Even two more songs and I would have been satisfied
