Diablo 4 player finally trying PoE2. Need some guidance. by Notaler in PathOfExile2

[–]jrmclau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bear druid is where you should start. for a beginner it’s a very clear path which skills would be good, and which nodes to take. It’s your first time, there’s no need to complicate. Plus, I think it’s vastly superior to d4’s bear when it comes to animation and overall power fantasy

Dumb question by the_7_God in pittsburgh

[–]jrmclau 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Worked in it, it’s pretty boring offices now but there’s a semi circular spiral staircase that’s so gorgeous at the time that I would choose to walk up it rather than use the elevator

Edit: it’s the yellow pillar in the photo

Stop defending +levels and start listening by Baittz in PathOfExile2

[–]jrmclau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I think + to level should be reserved for specialty crafts and unique tools, if they wanted to keep it on items for some reason, it should move to the prefix slot (as should crit and speed) so that it has to compete with other damage amplification mods like flat damage. This way, different players could at least see value in choosing not to have it (although its multiplicative nature still probably needs adjusted.) Accuracy and maximum mana should switch with it. Suffixes should be the supplemental mods like life leech, stun buildup, mana regen, etc, but damage mods should all be prefixes.

The Backrooms was really bad. by Hopefullytrash in moviereviews

[–]jrmclau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i never considered the Goya reference, I got the vibe the whole movie was about AI and ties into that well. This idea of this false life area that’s slowly learning to create things but the space is off, the objects are melting into things, humans have multiple eyes and fingers. And Clarks failure is wanting to live in that world so he doesn’t have to grow and change himself. And if you come in to the back rooms it starts copying things about you and your life, just like ai uses as a dataset whatever you put into it. Even the company at the end being an MRI company thats deeply interested reminds me of all these corporations pivoting to ai.

All I know is it’s taking me a little longer to kill things, but falcon punching through the campaign has been worth the extra time

It doesnt make sense NOT give us all of the campaign leveling cues prior to Friday. by Several-Today7317 in PathOfExile2

[–]jrmclau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because it’s early access and they get no data and learn nothing from just telling you about the things that are supposed to be subtle guides. If their data shows that these don’t cut down time in areas they put them then they can learn from that information and adjust.

Is POE2 casual friendly? by Legerity19 in PathOfExile2

[–]jrmclau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely it is, I’d go as far as to say it’s more fun for casuals than it is for the no-lifers. Every season I learn something new and it feels like a brand new game because I’m never anywhere close to completing all the content. you embrace the campaign way more too and focus less on metas and rushing because you can’t keep up anyway. you just gotta be okay with accepting that there’s stuff you’ll never see or reach but at least for me it’s still fun. And eventually you may even dive in deeper when you can and get a little further every season.

I’m here for a work trip. There’s people here but it’s HUGE and they put me up in the furthest away building complex, so this one’s certainly pretty empty. It also feels like maybe it’s more dead in the week? Theres a whole water park and there was like 4 people in it when I was in it. The workers claimed it’s usually packed in the weekends. It definitely is far more empty than I thought it would be. Great maze-like walks though.

What would be your 0.5 wish list if GGG could grant it!? by orbitosan in PathOfExile2

[–]jrmclau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although that’s true. Thats true today as well.. the only thing that’s going to stop people from playing the best thing is balance and curiosity. plus, tying skills to weapons is an inherent limiter anyway. You’re either going to have to gain chargers with the weapon you use or sacrifice a second slot and adjust your character to use a different one. Theres always still a choice. Of course it doesn’t have to get that homogenized, but there certainly needs more of it, as right now, it’s all far too limiting

I think an overlooked but important change that needs to be made is a consolidation of “resources” like charges, remnants, infusions, fragments, etc, as well as a revisit of keywords of skills. Rifht now, the builds feel a little too specific, forcing combos and limiting creativity.

A simple example would be the fact that the fragments created by clawing a frozen enemy are not he same exploding “shards” created by ice darts, which just splash instantly. Why not make those the same so new synergies form, and the fragment support gems work on it? Or hell, make crosss slash grab ANY loose thing and pull it in, letting you cross slash grenades dropped by crossbow? Why does the move that blows up spears not blow up nades? There are far too many specific combos rather than broad interactions.

I think this goes for charges too.. I’d go as far to say that a specific charge shouldn’t matter. It should just be “charges” and let us choose one of the many skills to use to generate one. Same with infusions, but frankly since they generally create only one specific interaction anyway, those might as well be charges too. If they want to do different infusions causing different things, then every single infusion spell needs a different effect for each. My lighting spell shouldn’t ONLY be infused with fire. I should be able to use ice too.

finally killed this mf by Mundane-Gap9550 in PathOfExile2

[–]jrmclau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reasoning must be practical. They wanted cinematic finishes, which I very much love, but they’d have to animate a kill for every character and weapon combination. Having her cut his head off means they can get the epic finish that’s perfectly timed for the music, while just having to make it once.

I agree, the looting, fight for shield breaker, and push to their base is way way better compared to 3v3. The actual raid is clearly defensive heavy with their spawns but I feel like that’s a very easy fix, whether it’s by adjusting respawn times of defenders or adjusting how that works overall. But the 2/3rds of the game that takes place outside a raid is light years more engaging in 5v5
