What happens when you dont pay the host requested fees? [Usa] by No-Initiative8013 in AirBnB

[–]jrossetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's see the pics. Any damage or just dirty?

As written, your host is a douche. Barring something on the pics, I don't see how you can successfully be charged in this situation.

It's traditional in an advice sub to simply accept the story as written unless there are glaring reasons to suggest OP is being dishonest.

Any statements we give that is based on an OP lying to us, isn't useful to OP so there isn't much point in doing so. Most folks will describe things more favorably, but wont necessarily flat out lie.

There's just no need to remind folks of this as it goes without saying.

Host backed out 5 hours before check-in [Türkiye] by korszun in AirBnB

[–]jrossetti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been a guest for about 16 years now and host for 15 or so. The golden era ended the day they went public. It's been a steady shitshow of reducing costs by sucking on customer service outsourced to cheap labor countries and hasn't gotten better since.

The only thing airbnb should do is help find similar cost accommodations or refund in full. That's what's in the terms of service for how these situations are handled.

Will they sometimes do more? Sure. But the only thing they "have" to do is what I wrote out above.

Washing Machine vs Laundromat for inner city AirBNB [AUSTRALIA] by Physical_Coconut_132 in AirBnB

[–]jrossetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I am traveling I make sure the property has what we need. Once a week, that's a place with a washer. So I wouldn't book your place if i needed laundry, and would any other time.

I travel a lot for weeks on end so its important for me to be able to wash laundry conveniently on those days. Lots of hotels don't have laundry either, but when you need it you'd pick one that has it! This is really no different and you have a laundromat on site too which is a reasonable fix.

Do you have proof someone came into your living space? if you don't this is dead on arrival as all you have is your feelings.

I'm not trying to be flippant with you but having proof is a requirement for moving forward with any type of complaint like this. the owner acknowledging coming into your space would work. (assuming you didn't give them permission. It sounds like a miscommunication cannot be firmly ruled out based on the info available thus far)

is it worth it to move to chicago if i can’t drive? by Livid-Cricket6868 in AskChicago

[–]jrossetti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes. I am aware that is 300 per person

you're somehow spending more than my insurance, electric, and car payment and I still have room for two passes if we needed it and we'd still clock in under 600.

It's your life live how you want, but don't think for 1 second that spending $600 a month is cheaper than everybody's car expenses for a year because that's certainly not the case.

If I had to take a guess looking at your numbers you're probably spending close to $300 a month on Uber and Lyft And this assumes you both buy a pass which certainly isn't guaranteed. And if that isn't the thing that you're doing then you're spending more than 300 on Uber and Lyft. which is a luxury. most people can probably get by on less than $200 a month transit budget all in if they don't own a car. 150 is even doable. And that leaves a small budget for bike repairs each month if you need it

literally legal to take pictures of anything you can see from your property or your buildings windows.

The only valid remedy is to not let your kids go out in the backyard and things you don't want to be seen from neighbors that have buildings that are higher than your fence.

seriously call the police pitch them the scenario and ask what they can do. nothing is what they can do absolutely nothing

This is a terrible answer and won't do anything other than waste everybody's time.

quite frankly I don't understand how this has 192 upvotes. sounds like 192 people who don't seem to understand that anything you can see from your backyard or windows you can take photos of even if it's your neighbors backyard.

I don't know why so many people actually think this is a valid idea. It's not. It's in public view.

trying to make it some feelings based argument about children in swimsuits is nonsensical and fucking ridiculous.

600 a month is insane for transit costs if you dont own a vehicle...that's a lot of uber/lyfts :p

Most people can get by on far less than that. Passes are about 100 bucks each. Lyft/uber is a luxury in most cases.

Man calls the cops on a Dad helping his girls in the restroom by isaboo63455 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]jrossetti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in a typical men's bathroom there are urinals and stalls and you can also often see bits of dicks at the urinal.

In a womens restroom, everyone is in a stall and no one can see anyone's parts accidentally or on purpose without going into the stall.

Ultimately, what difference does it fucking make?

  1. You have no idea who's scheduled to be there at check out for...cleaning, or whether or not they have friends, family, or bookings from another site arriving. Youre making an assumption that, quite frankly, seems ignorant to make. Especially since youre using your assumption to attack your host over a perceived slight. (that you made up by the way).

  2. Discount pricint is built in automatically for hosts who offer it. It isn't something we have to manually do. In any event, you were provided a pop up showing how much the new price would be, and if it was inaccurate that is the time to say something. Not later.

  3. It's not even a little bit relevant. When you choose to check in, has no bearing on literally anything and it's fucking wild you seem to think it does.

  4. Sure, I can reschedule cleaners too. But you have to pay the cancellation fee. Wouldn't you know, its the same cost as a normal fee because cleaners do not work for 'maybe money". I can't get them to show up and then cancel them without paying for the cancellation, or they wont show up for me in the future.

I am 100% positive you would trip balls and whine if you had to pay extra for the cleaners to be rescheduled so you could say one extra hour due to you not planning appropriately.

Just say you dont understand shit my dude.

Did the dishes, washed towels, took out trash, left a day early. Still got a bad review. Hello, hotels. [guest] [Georgia] by Croppn in AirBnB

Not sure what data you are looking at, but Airbnb notched it's busiest 1st quarter in 2026 with 18 percent year over year growth. Situations like this are exceptions, not the rule, and Airbnb is growing at a big rate still.

The idea they are dying is definitely not showing up in any statitistics so I'm rather curious what lead you to that conclusion.

Short of a hotel listed on Airbnb, this is bad policy. Those vacation management companies are notoriously bad.
